Disappointed in AMC

I am very disappointed in AMC, they used to show such good movies and in some cases they still do but this show should not be on television. A show glorifying the manufacturing of an illegal drug should not be on the air regularly. This is something for the likes of showtime or hbo not a regular cable network. I am very disappointed in them for airing this trash.

yes because such things as "evil" illegal drugs and fictional drama about them should be sheltered from anyone who may find this offensive. give me a break, if people are offended by this shows contents, dont watch it. And if you dont want your children to watch it try being a parent and not rely on a television network to do it for you

I don't see this as glorification. I'm a substance abuse counselor and do worry about what people pick up from TV about drugs, but this show didn't strike me that way AT ALL. Most of my clients are long term, hardcore meth users, and I know what the stuff does to people. But my take is that although it may SOUND easy to make a fortune cooking and selling the drug, Murphy's Law will apply, and the ends never justify the means. Potential meth cookers and dealers need to see that this is not the cakewalk they expect.

There is so much more to this story than the drugs and as you watch it all unfold its very clear the making, distribution and use of Meth is portrayed anything but glorious in Breaking Bad. I have teenagers and don't mind them seeing this because it hits a soul over the head hard with the danger, pain and loss of drugs on all levels right to making it clear violent death is the price that can and will be paid. Its real.

Honestly although the drugs are pivitol as Walt's given break I think the overall human story of facing death while trying to find a way to make the ends meet for the ones you'll leave behind is far deeper and darker when you get right down to it.

Its timely I think.
The country, hell world, is filled with people that can't afford to care for themselves when ill or die wth quiet diginity while others live in unparalleled weath. It may not be drugs but how many people, good people who work hard and want nothing more than to feed and house their familes, are out there now desperate and teetering on Breaking Bad in some other way?

Anyone of us could be pushed, even if it is likely in a less volitile direction, to Break just like Walt

It may be extreme but it is, in layers lying quietly under the horrors of drugs, about real human survival.

I can understand and respect if Walt's given area of breaking puts you off from sitting down and really watching but please know there is so much more to this story than its anything but glorious look at drugs.

All the best to you and yours.

This show does not glorify the drug at all. You haven't watched, have you? It goes way deeper than the Meth aspect. It is a human story of a man doing what he has to do to take care of his family with his inevitable death coming. It shows how dirty a drug Meth is and the violence involved. It isn't as simple as cooking it up and making some money, as he quickly finds out. Excellent show!

Secondly, AMC is doing a very good thing by adding original series to their lineup. An ad ridden station airing movies that you can see the month before or the month after without commercials on a premium channel, rent from Netflix without commercials, or buy out of the Walmart $5 bin on DVD without commercials has to adapt or fade away. The only reason many of us watch AMC at all are for these shows Mad Men and Breaking Bad. I gave up on AMC a long time ago and feel very lucky to have stumbled onto Breaking Bad during season 1 last year. That show alone has made me demand both my carriers, FIOS and DirecTV to pick up AMC HD (neither have yet,but that is the channel I want the most in HD that I currently don't have). Just for that one show I want the channel in HD. I don't watch anything else on the channel. But an ORIGINAL program this good reels me in. A lot of people feel this way. AMC wants to be around in 10 years don't you think? If they continue to air commercialized movies and nothing more, they will drop off the face of the earth. There are just too many choices out there now days. I still cannot believe anybody watches edited movies on these commercial stations. No offense but can't you afford a Walmart or Big Lots $25 DVD player and a few $5 DVDs or a Netflix subscription? What about HBO or Showtime? Why count on ad supported TV for movies this day in age? This isn't the 1980s. Not to mention Internet based video. AMC is doing a wonderful thing by adding desired content. This is the best thing they could have done. They have viewers tuning in that normally wouldn't tune to AMC.

No "GLORY" here at all. Just a dramatic representation of the reality of what happens to those who choose to dance with a monster.

I'm in agreement - I doubt the thread starter has actualy viewed the presentation. Nowhere are there true specifics on exactly HOW TO cook - without a great big boom.

I've been a fan since months before the Pilot aired, and not to re-live any old days, but knew just from the Actors who would be involved that the subject would be handled in a very professional way.

I believe that AMC has done a valuable service in opening up the eyes of some who might only have twice a year "BUST STORY" to read in the hometown news - from three Countys over - with most of the descriptors left out.

Seams that there are numerous Public Officials with an "ANTI METH" program "UP AND RUNING" showing little to no true action. Beauracracy at it's best.

METH and the destruction inherent need to be MINDSET number one now in the eyes of our Elected's, Public Service Occupational's, and anyone in seats of Wisdom and with decision making authority, as imho this is truly the Plague of this decade.

This isn't "Cheech n Chong" here... There's nothing portrayed that is either funny or glamourous about this subject.

Enter AMC, bringing a very dark subject front and center on a Sunday Evening. The more Emmys the better... Possibly then METH will actually get a new set of Publicly Published facts and figures -dated AFTER 2007.

Seriously!

Run a search and see when the last time an official statisticle report on the devestation in monetary terms - THE NATIONAL SOCIAL IMPACT OF METH - was published!

RAND handled the last one - and it wasn't recent. The problem has only grown since - and they couldn't even guesstimate the costs on the "CHILD SUFFERING" factor - the children left displaced due to the Biological Parents choice to use and abuse.

BRAVO AMC!

Radar - I'm NOT harshing on you, truly, but - you realize that IF you live in a typical city - suburb type environment - you probably have at least 3 tweekers living within a mile of you? Maybe have a "cook set up" somewhere down the block?

I say the more attention drawn to this the better.

oooops... hiccups

LOL! Well, it has already been said by several people and said well but....

If you call the destruction of a family, inner moral battles, death and killing, bad guys getting busted, and many other HORRIBLE things that come along with getting involved on any level with the drug industry Glorification than you have a different definition of that word than AMC does.

I think another poster had it right when they said that you might want to watch the show.

AMC has to follow the suggestions of the Advertisers on how to get people to WATCH the show, though. Previews don't always tell the REAL story... just like watching previews for Movies... how many times have you gone to the movies based on what you expected from the previews and the movie turned out to not be what the previews promised?
