Great so far!! I live in a small town in north texas that has been fighting the meth problem for a long time. i myself have been in the wifes shoes and can relate to how crazy life becomes when meth is involved in any way. being a part of that lifestyle becomes more of an addiction than the drug itself. i,ve seen many good men and women destroy themselves and their families. i hope in the end you have found a way to portray the devestation it brings.
ok , i caught by accident the first episode , most of it . trying to fill in some blanks . does his wife know he is dying ? and has the second episode aired yet ? thought it would be on tomorrow night.
You can read recaps of the first episode here:

The first episode is also available for download on iTunes and Unbox.
Enjoy!
Alright..watching now. Intense so far.
liking the music placement. jazzy, upbeat "baby you're moving me..." while moving the newly immobile burn victim. i regret that i missed episode 1!
best outta 3! .. lol this show is intense.. im not a fan of meth AT ALL but this series is great!
The pilot was very promising. Tonight's episode moved really slow, but there were some great moments (bathtub scene in my opinion). I really hope it picks up speed because there really isn't much else on worth watching.
I just love this show. I thought I would die laughing when in episode 2, Walter asks Skylar to crawl back out of his ass. The writing on the show is incredible and truly entertaining. It just keeps getting better and better. I was hooked from the beginning. Great job.
For me, I liked it better than the first episode. I feel Walk is in deep over his head. His career as a meth dealer seems over already and he is into a lifetime of damage control but we'll see...
Omfg, I love this show soo much! The writing is superb, and the actors are gods gift to everyone. I haven't been so entertained in a long time. Grats to the writers I hope Breaking Bad has many seasons to come. Capn Cook is so witty, and Walt is always right on.
Well, I was hoping that this show would have a greater-than-wikipedia display of chemical knowledge. Getting little things here and there wrong is fine, especially because it's a fun(ish) and engaging show.
However: The use tonight of Hydrofluoric Acid (HF) as a plot piece was very unlikely.
HF, while a "stronger" acid, is also HIGHLY, HIGHLY TOXIC (poisonous). Splashing 2% of your body with the stuff can kill, not from the burn itself (it often doesn't burn), but from the toxic effects of having free fluorine atoms floating around in your body. The fluorine sequesters calcium in the bloodstream and, in short, can cause a heart attack. Even the most callous laboratory workers treat the stuff like it is the devil.
Walter would: A) Not have access, or the necessity for the chemical at a high school. (although, oddly enough, some car washes do use the stuff in very minute amounts)
B)Would be too scared to use it in any circumstance in that volume. Often, HF is delivered in quantities sufficient only to do a few experiments. It is delivered by specialized trucks from companies dedicated to chemical safety (Honeywell).
C)I'm guessing HCL, H2SO4, etc. would've done the trick here: HCL is used in some laboratory settings to decay deceased rats used in experiments. I'm also guessing that 12M HCL would've had the potential to eat through a porcelain bathtub, although I might be wrong on that, and it wouldn't happen that fast.
I have never even written a nitpick before in my life. But I thought the HF tonight was ridiculous.
However, the show gets the adrenaline going: keep it up.
second episode! oh maaaaan!!! that bathtub scene is outrageous.
What an incredible show so far. so realistic.
funniest quote "somehow it seemed preferable to I cook crystal meth and i killed a man" XD
This show is ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING! I love dark humour, and this is it to a tee. I can't stop laughing . . . and its always good to hit the rack on a Sunday evening after a good laugh.
Kudos to the writers and the cast, et al, for a job extremely well done!
Why did Walt put money in the washer/dryer, as in the end of the first show? I've seen this in movies before, where counterfeit money was made, but I don't know what the connection is to the show.
First show was a real trip, second show kinda slow but had numerous memorable moments: (a) Crazy 8 walking down the street and running into tree (b) Walt telling his wife to crawl outta his ass (c) Walt trying to roll a joint (d) the tub falling through the floor made me fall out on the floor. Big stretch for Brian Cranston to accept this role but I feel that he has nailed it so far. It is about time that theres a show on television that isnt a copycat of an older show or idea, this is something totally fresh. Kudos to AMC and all the actors on this show,we love it!
Aaron Paul who plays Jesse is pretty entertaining.
I absolutely LOVE this show!! This episode was great!
You’re killin’ me, here!
I haven’t laughed so hard at a TV drama in ages, and I just had to pass along some kudos...
As a serious tv watcher – I aspire to write some one day – and a man with a somewhat ‘dubious’ past myself, your portrayal of middle-aged angst is so spot on, it’s making me howl!
Lovely concept. Great non-acting. (And I just learned about his terminal illness from this blog. Puts a bit of a different spin on things!!)
This is the MOST BRILLIANT show i've seen in years.... i HATE sitcoms. trite garbage w/ no redeeming qualities... this... THIS is a perfect balance of humor, tragedy, character, and plot. all you idiots who worry about the 'effect' of this show from a moral standpoint.... what about the ENTIRE MTV programming schedule, any reality show... hell, 99% of regular TV. THAT is the moral abyss. THIS is as close to life in that beautiful chaotic absurdity of art as i've seen on TV. sublime... sure meth is horrible, but so is the passive, secondary mindset the main character has endured his entire life up to this point. this rivals american beauty in its absolute scope as it pertains to LIVING LIFE AS IT IS.
This show is INCREDIBLE! The writing is superb, the acting is outstanding and the plot is fresh and different. It's so fortunate that this started during the writers' strike. Otherwise, many of us might never have taken a chance on watching something outside of our usual dull, Sunday evening routine.
A note to The Alchemist: get over yourself! This is fiction. Writers are allowed to use artistic license. I have a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Michigan and work in chemical research. Yes, there have been errors from a scientific standpoint starting with the first episode. However, do yourself a favor, suspend reality for 60 minutes, and sit back and enjoy a highly entertaining, superb new show. Life would be pretty boring if we couldn't bend the rules a bit.
Not as much fearlessness and pop as Show One.
I like the comeback of Crazy 8 (didn't want him to go so fast in first show), and his post-gas condition was almost too painful to watch. Some slow and obvious dialogue between Walt and Jesse about the dead/near-dead disposition, but with clanky coin toss, and Walt retreating into unknowing mode, whereas before, impulse and quick reflexes have been his "charm" to date.
Then an ultrasound. Walt is pingponged between life with meaning and the mechanical cash-out chase of meth (for this, he is definitely now off track). Skylar dipped into a little psycho preachie action, ever bricking up that wall that Walter will soon not be able to see over. Bathtub scene is bit predictable, but the dumpage makes up for it.
Back to the RV and no pants danger life!
I absolutely love this show! Major kudos to the creators, writers, actors, hell everyone involved in making this truly entertaining show. For we, the little people need something fresh and exciting to watch on what has become of tv. this show has given the middle of winter in western PA a ray of hope.
I was a little less enamored with the second episode, not only because it was slower, but also it seemed as though things were catching up with Walt. I wasn't ready for his secret to be revealed. I like him and can relate to his circumstance. I think he feels very out of control and wants, just once, to be in charge.
I'm glad Crazy 8 did not die. I hope that he will stick around for a few more episodes and help Walt sort out the mess that his life has become.
I'm still trying to figure out Skyler. I think she also feels out of control, especially now that these strange things are happening in her life and she has no clue what it is all about.
I found it very touching when they were in the doctor's office and found out they were having a girl and Walt told her that was what he had hoped for. Then she says something like, "Remember that
when she's 16". Walt gets very choked up because he knows that more than likely he won't be around by then.
One more observation: I feel that Walter is at his truest when he is in the classroom, teaching his students. It seems as though the lessons there are what we're supposed to find out about during the rest of the series. I hope so, at least.
I haven't watched a television series on a regular basis in a long time, but I'm watching this. And I'm buying the set when it comes out.
I don't mind the episodes taking their time to drive through the plot. It reminds me of The Sopranos in a way. A lot of people were very upset when certain episodes dragged on without any "hits" or "whacks" or deals or whatever. But the show was a character study, as is this show.
Think of it this way: I was speaking to my mother about the plot, and she asked me, "Well how are they going to keep this show going if they've given the main character terminal cancer?" Easy, take your time. The second episode took place over the course of two days--yes, that seems long, but who cares? I'm just loving watching the dynamic between Walt and Jesse in particular. It's rare to see two actors with such, forgive the pun, chemistry. Talk about redefining The Odd Couple...
Brilliant new show .I loved the "Bathtub" part..Very sinister style of writing...Even though "Crazy 8" tried to kill them both I do feel for the character....Not a very good situation to be in...2 episodes in & "Walts" life starting to come apart at the seams......This is a much needed topic to be in the limelight as meth like crack really destroys not only the individule but family & friends as well.Brilliant scripting & a very good choice for the cast..."Wipe Down This"
I've read some of the other comments & well lets say the wrighting doesn't have to be 100% correct..Lets face it the show script shouldn't have to be a "Guide to Body Disposle"
Palleden Press got into trouble for that one...The ending was a Grip on the reality of the world of meth......(little girl with the mask)........Vince you the man!..........Riviting series......More More More....
AMC SELL OUTS! 1 HOUR OUT OF 168 YOU HAD TO RUIN A GOOD THING WITH COMMERCIALS.GOING TO QUIT WATCHING AND WAIT FOR DVD.GREAT SHOW!
The commercials disappointed me at first too. Then I remembered that AMC isn't a premium channel. Watch it On Demand and fast forward through the commercials if it bothers you that much.
Someone already asked this with no reply, but does anyone know the meaning of the bills in the dryer from episode one?
@Pinochet: Regarding the bills in the dryer, as I understand it the bills were soaking in the phosphorous concoction that Walt made--if you remember in the beginning of the premiere, there was all that brown liquid rushing around on the floor of the RV.
When they gave the man who pulled the RV out of the ditch that money, it looked like it could have been wet.
That could explain why he had to dry it--I don't think it's a play on "laundering money," though it's a nice allusion to draw anyways. Thoughts?
I love this show. I have always been a big fan of Bryan Cranston. From the time I first saw him in an episode of the X-Files, to whacky dentist Tim Watley on Seinfeld to the Manic father on Malcolm in the Middle. He has always brought a vibrant and memorable energy to his roles. Seeing him now play Walter White is really letting him stretch his acting legs and boundaries. I have gotten 3 of my coworkers to start watching the show and after the first 2 episodes we are now addicted. No pun intended
Along with most everyone else, I gotta give kudos to AMC and the writers, actors, directors etc. for this show. Much better than Weeds, I think.
That said, about Krazy-8 still being around? OH COME ON!!!
Based on what little I know from some clandestine drug lab classes I've taken as a first responder, there's no way he'd be alive now after inhaling all the fumes after the RV explosion, much less alert, oriented and talking effortlessly as he seems to be in the episode 3 trailer. I agree good idea to keep him around (for a bit, at least), but the method the writers used required too much suspension of disbelief.
This is the best TV show I have ever seen! The second episode was better than the first. WOW! The writing, the story, THE ACTING. Amazing! This is award winning work - hands down! My husband and I laughed all night and just watched with our jaws open. Thank you! Please let this show continue!
@DRKellogg: I love Walt's chemistry lectures too--they always give such great insights into what the show is really all about.
Take Walt's discussion on Chirality and the concept of identical yet opposite. Isn't that Walt himself? Is he not both a square, straight-laced chemistry teacher in one moment, and in the next a man who has been pushed so far to the edge he's almost unrecognizable?
Take the moment when Walt tells Skyler to back off, or for that matter, the last scene of the premiere episode when Skyler asks, "Who are you?" Identical, but opposite.
There are always moments when a show or book's writer takes the opportunity to talk to the viewer or reader. These chemistry lectures, IMHO, are such moments for Vince Gilligan, when he explains the whole point of the show.
Can't wait for the next class!
This show is like a roller coster ride it slows down with great dramatic moments and speeds up with witty humor. LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!!!!!
Another great episode.
While I loved the pilot too I think I actually liked this one a little better. Seeing the second episode pick up from where the the pilot left off so smoothly, maintaining the quality of the first episode all the way through, tells me very clearly we're in for top notch TV from start to finish with this fantastic new series.
I can't wait for more!
Also, while there is no question Mr. Crantson is exceptional in Breaking Bad I wanted to mention how very taken - I ran right off to IMDB to see what else this talented young man had done - I am with Aaron Paul's, Jesse.
Cranston and Paul, dynamite together, make me greedy for all the Walt and Jesse a gal can get.
I absolutely love this show. We've been waiting for something new to come along - FINALLY! Keep up the good work. Can't wait for next week!!!

So Bad in So Many Ways:
I really liked the show because it strikes a nerve in so many places. First of all I once worked for a store in the mid-west called Ventures and it's like a Target here in the West Coast. While working there, I had a teacher that taught at a local High School. I found it pretty peculiar that a schoolteacher would work in a place like this. Schoolteachers are supposed to be role models and would not seem the type to take such a menial job such as this. I would have felt so bad if one of his students happen to stop by and see him marking down price tags on sales items. So, when I saw this it instantly took me back to that time. Second, to have a educated teacher and a Chemistry Teacher at that making Meth is so wrong in so many ways. It works though, given his circumstances and I am curious how they will make it turn out. Good Work and a great idea. Hope he gets to make money in a different way.
I can't believe how fast this show has me hooked, just like real meth! Ha ha...actually not funny because meth is such a terrible terrible drug and what it does to people...but going back to the show, even on TV...look what it has done to Walt in two short episodes. A mild mannered teacher who has resorted to almost murder! Well, actual murder if you count Emilio...he knew what he was doing..then again, he was only trying to perserve his own life. What a great gripping show. I am telling everyone about it. Last show I was so into like this was Huff (the opening scene is very similar and the music too). I just hope they don't cancel this show like they did with Huff. I can't wait until next Sunday!
Kicking Great, It is one thing to rub someone out in self defense but to axe them in cold blood! I dont think either of them have it in themselves to do it. It is going to have to be an accident or self defense. I am to invested in the characters for them to be heartless.
@JPB2: I agree. I think to kill Krazy 8 would be too much of a stretch for the characters at this point. I would be disappointed if at some point the two didn't become hardened enough to pull off something that horrible, but we have to remember at this point that they're still essentially themselves. They've just made some bad decisions.
Krazy 8 has to die, though. If he all of a sudden becomes friendly with them or forgives their trespasses, that would be an extreme disappointment. It's my guess that with the way his lungs sound, he's not long for this world anyways and he'll just die out in Jesse's basement.
GREAT SHOW AMCTV! Realizing the meth problem is now & has been for years a pandemic throughout the U.S. & elsewhere; the writing & method of this show as it is presented on a "Free" channel is quite remarkable. Having worked for many years in the mental health field; the "bath tub" crank used today by so-called meth pros who almost always go into a psychotic state of mind is by far more dangerous than the "Glass" on "BREAKING BAD". Don't get me wrong as I'm not promoting meth in any form. Breaking Bad is surely a hit & my hats off to all involved for a very entertaining show! So humorous!
Had me on the edge of my seat the whole show. The show has a very realistic feeling about it. Like how the average, normal person would deal with such horrific situations.

To be sure the kid ain't too bright, but couldn't he of gotten a 32 gallon plastic garbage can for the "special" container. There was probably a can lying around the house somewhere.
The dark humor in the show is great BTW. Good cliffhanger on what "another fine mess" these two have gotten in to.
The KGB used to dissolve bodies in a vat of Lime or Lye and the dump the remains down the toilet. I saw a place where they did it in Estonia. They first shredded the bodies in machine to speed up the process.
First off I'de like to say I'm a big fan of the show. Was dissapointed that the third show isnt gonna be on this week but pleased of the encore pilot showing. I told all my friends who missed the pilot about the show but it's kinda hard to discribe and very hard to follow the second episode if you missed the pilot. I am anxiuously awaiting the third episode!
THIS IS A GREAT SHOW!!! KRAZY 8 IS A GOOD ACTOR AND IM GLAD TO SEE HE DIDNT DIE!!! AS THE PLOT THICKENS I HOPE HE STAYS ON THE SHOW FOR A FEW MORE EPISODES!!! KRAZY 8 SHOULD BE RECOGNIZED MORE!!! IT WAS HILARIOUS AS HE WALKED DOWN THE STREET AND SAW MR. WHITE RUNNING INTO THE TREE WAS CLASSIC!!!!
KRAZY 8 AND MR. WHITE SHOULD KILL JESSIE AND WORK TOGETHER!!! LOL!!
CHICAGO LOVE'S KRAZY 8!!!!! =)

the show was totaly unexpcted! its like a gift from the network.funny!!sad, good acting, yet the two episodes ive watched sort of dragged in spaces and waisted time,im hoping this small flaw is spaced in with the rest of it.if the writers are on strike, being a new show who put it togather? whoever it is keep it coming.
This show is absolutely BRILLIANT! It's daring, different and I'd love to see the unedited versions. (No offense, AMC, but I always thought of the network as an old-fogey channel. I admit that was probably 20 years ago, when it was more TCM without the good movies.) Bryan Cranston is fabulous and I admit that except for Malcolm and a single TV commercial I'd never seen him do anything else. I know I missed a lot.
Congratuations to all involved on the great writing, the quirky/tragic concept and on what I think will be a solid hit!

what a totally refreshing show! i sort of feel like myboypat,in the fact that to many good shows have short lives.you go walt!

I'm glad AMC is reshowing it because I thought it
would be another bad show but I watched the second episode and was surprised. It is very well written and
the acting is excellent too. Like a mini movie. With a repeat, I will be able to watch the 1st one. Thanks AMC! Your giving FX a run for the money!!
repost 2 from the old bag:
I understand Bromine can be used as a sedative
but what does Barium have to do with making meth?
Those are the two elements-BR and BA.
This show is great so far I dont know about the acid in the bathtub though i hope, that whole plot was just for t.v. and the show goes deeper into the real world of selling meth. A drug dealers life is harder then most people might think from the police,to the users, and the other dealers, to becoming an addict. Also how meth is a 24hour 7day a week thing most meth heads are out at 2-3 in the morning and they would rat you out in a heartbeat to stay out of jail so they can get high. Finaly I hope it shows that dealing for any reason will not make life better it only leads to a downfall that few are able to escape.
Best show in a long time.
I love a dark comedy. Poor Walt has been looking for a breakout point for awhile. He is fed up with his home life, his family and finances are a mess. His multiple jobbs just plain suck. Not only cant he make enough money to get by on his teaching salary that he has to take a second job at the car wash where he is demeaned even more. His rage has been building as he sees that hard work and playing straight arrow got him or his family nowehere. The man knows he has a death sentence hanging over his head. It is both binding and freeing at the same time. He is letting the rage out a little at a time but I think we havent seen anything yet. He has seen how the slackers of the world get over. All the guy wants to do at least at first is provide for his family when he is gone. I imagine that will continue to change and grow as more and more rage and desperation take over. So just weher did he begin to break bad? who knows how far back this has been growing but it is the combination of the past and the recent events that triggered the metamorphosis. The best of wich is still to come I believe.Walt is a very dangerous man. He has both rage and desperation as well as knowledge working for him. It is the remoteness of the things he has and the nearness of the things he whants that taunt him. Cant say I wouldnt be tempted mysel if was in a similar situation At least at this point I think he is doing it to take care of his family. All I know is everyone at work and home cant say enough good about the show, ages range from 17 to 78 so I would say it is a pretty broad audience
This show is theee most suspenseful, and one of the badest. I love the scene when the disolving body fell through the tub and floorboard, all because the guy was scared to cut the guy in half. Show listening to your everyday chemisty teacher really does help....
I caught the second episode by accident and watched it anyway and loved it!!! Its so entertaining and i enjoy it very much. I am not a fan of TV shows and i normally cant pay attention to shows but this one keeps me glued!!! I am in love with aaron paul (jesse) he is sooo funny!!!! one ofmy fave things was when he called walters house in the morning and the answering machine picked up so he pretended to be a phone company its was so f-ing funny!!! I missed the 3rd episode last night by accident but I am going to watch it tonight and i cannot wait!!
WHAT IS THE BRAND OF THE YELLOW JACKET JESSE WAS WEARING IN THE BEGINNING 2ND EPISODE???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
This is the best thing to hit TV in ages. It is pretty true to life in many ways. I hope that the original unedited versions will be for sale. It was a little bit of a bummer to see them all stepped on as they began to replay season one.
Please tell me where I can buy the "BAD" tee shirt Vince Gilligan is wearing in the "Making of" website videos. Manonbass
Enjoyed the show, This was my first time watching it and will diffently tune in again. Especially enjoyed the music. Was feelin that "Keep Ballin" song. Will you be using any more of this artist's songs. I checked out "Trump's" mix tape "Hate It Or Get It" and had to get it.
As the alchemist before me said, Hydrofluoric acid was a really bad idea. The idea that HF is a strong acid is a mistake that almost all general chemistry students make. In actuallity it is a weak acid with a Ka = 7.08 * 10^-4.
Now 12M HCL would be easy for Walter to aqcuire but that crap scares me, its a sludge and you can see it about to eat through anything. On the other hand, the HF would have done nothing more to the bath tub than barely clean the pipe work. Not forget, as mentioned earlier, that crap is really toxic too, but looking at the bright side, you will have strong enamel when you die :).
Anyway, students are taught that as you go up the periodic table in the halogens column the more electronegative a molecule is (which is true), and the more electronegative a halogen is, then the more acidic it will be when combined with Hydrogen. This is true and false at the same time. In the case of Chlorine, Bromine, and Iodine. Hydrochloric acid would be the strongest because it is the best at pulling the electrons away from Hydrogen to a point that when it is in an aqueos solution, the hydrogen proton just splits off and joins water creating hydronium ions.
In the case of HF though, it would not happen because Fluorine is one of the three molecules that makes excellent hydrogen bonds. The other two being Nitrogen and Oxygen, so what happens in aqueous solution is actually the opposite. Instead of dissociating like HCl or HBr, it just stabalizes itself by hydrogen bonding with water, and other HF molecules making it a weak acid.
Sorry to nitpick, but I really had to point that out.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Oh yeah, but they way, I forgot to mention that I live in Albuquerque, and I saw my house in one of the shots. I was like WTF but then everyone told me they shot it in our town and that is entertaining because, you are like snap, thats across the street.
8 ball of meth = 3.5 grams sold for $120 and thats cheep!!! (at least in cali, unless you know a cooker direct.)
theres roughly 452 grams in a pound
you do the math XD
Hello,
I know the conceit of this show is R-rated, but rarely has a TV show shown such exquisite chemistry. If kids see it on TV, it has a greater gravitas. I am a high school chemistry teacher. Are there others out there? Let's talk about the chemistry on the show. I want to show excerpts (perhaps edited) to my AP class. I mean, come on. Fulminated mercury? You won't find that on Family Guy!

can anyone tell me when season 2 starts boyfriend driving me crazy
can someone tell me who the music artist is during the flyer handout scene on tonights episode
Anybody know if episode 2 will be re-broadcast?
I hate it when I travel and forget to record.....
