Am I the Only Recovering Meth Addict Out There?
I've really enjoyed the series because it shows me my "bad old days" and I'm glad I'm not there anymore. A friend asked me if Breaking Bad is realistic. Pretty much. Ya gotta have cajones to cook and distribute, for sure. Then if you get a stupid tweaker for a partner, it's gonna go against you big time.
I think this series would be good for older kids to watch so they could see for real what they are getting themselves into, and not be pampered by some "After School Special" version.
I LOVED the "Mormons as killer bikers" episode, except, you only feel that scared of the Mormons coming, you don't hallucinate quite that badly. Though I never had anything as pure as the tweaker had, nor as large a quantity.
I pray they have the series on again. Well written, well acted, and entertaining is a rare commodity on TV. This show has it all.

I agree, moondreamer. During the anticipation to the show's premiere, so much of the buzz was focused on whether or not Breaking Bad was glorifying this drug. Quite the opposite, I think it lifts the rock and shows us the dark underside of this world that Walt has most disastrously entered.
This show is brilliant! I don't usually watch TV and I have never left "comments" on a web site, but I want this show back on the air. It is pure genius. Please bring another season, the show was just gaining momentum.
Let's face it. If people are going to do meth, they will and if they aren't, they won't. No amount of money spent or lives shattered will change it. I also used meth in the past, a long long time ago. I was not a dealer or really had much interaction with one, but I love this show. This show is just one more example of how things are never black and white at their core.
I just hope they put the next season on before I get burned out trying to find it and forget about it!
I am not but my brother is a recovering heroine adict and my mom is a recovering alcoholic. Watching this has reminded me of the past and connected with me in many levels. The whole cancer and chemistry bit have also interiged me. I'm studying and it's very interesting how somthing as important as chemistry can bring such things to the world. I like everything about this show. I love chemisty and hate drugs, love-hate.
i love this show!!!!!!
i am 15... probably too young to understand this kinda stuff according to adults.....but i understand a lot about life i am an ex meth user as well..i dont really think like a young teen should....i dont really relate to this show but it still makes me think and wonder and its sooo exciting to watch!!!!
i hope that the second season comes soon!! i cant wait!!
Anna8: Unless you got really heavy into cooking meth and distributing it right from the get go, you couldn't relate to the show. You didn't relate to the paranoid trip of thinking Mormons were killer bikers coming to get the guy? I did. It's not like I hallucinated someone as being a killer biker, but I was as scared of a regular person knocking on my door as I would be a killer biker.
Everything that could go wrong with the chemist's enterprise has gone wrong so far. Stupid partner, ex-cop brother in law. Yikes.
Actually, because I was a meth freak for so long, I didn't know I had asthma, because Meth masks the symptoms. If I were writing the show, I'd probably blow it, cause I'd want to write that meth cured his lung cancer. Not realistic at all, but a lovely fantasy.
Hi, This is Jack Dawson,

Crystal Meth Addiction
I feel that its incrediblely disappointing that we have these kinds of programs that are polluting our youth with such terrible ideas
welcome to the real world ricker
Hello, my name is Richard, and I'm an IV METH Addict with 14 years of solid sobriety... Pleased to be here"!
A grateful recoverer, with no "triggers" from the show - praising AMC for doing such a controversial program.
Hoping it will enlighten the masses to the true nature of this epidemic.
I know I asked this question somewhere but I'll be danged if I can figure out where, exactly, with all the threads that are open. If someone here could explain this, I'd appreciate it, and let me first preface the question by congratulating all of you who are recovering for your courage and determination.
I never did any heavy drugs but I had a boyfriend in the late 60s/early 70s whose drug of choice was what was then called speed or just amphetamines (no meth prefix). He'd do any drug handed to him and in great quantities, but he really loved his speed. He was a mainliner--at least that's what shooting up was called then. He was drafted and the US Army, in its infinite wisdom, sent the kid to Vietnam where heroin was extremely cheap so, of course . . . Anyway, I learned he died about 10 years ago; I'm surprised he lived so long considering. I hadn't seen him since I was 20.
But my question is, what is the difference between, or similiarity to, today's meth and the stuff he was doing?
Thanks again for the information.
Hey Alex',
FIRST - "THANK YOU" for acknowledging that some can and do get clean... We are NOT in the majority with this stuff however.
To try to give you a brief yet under-eduacted opinion on your questions:
The "CRAP" back then was normally made from the inner guts of VIX inhalers... People knew how to draw down the whatever was in it - Benzedrine, I think - I'm NOT a "CHEMIST" or "COOK" just a someone who had the "right" (?) people to get what I needed to keep myself insane; for a very long time.
Some people would draw that up and shoot it, some would stir the capsule in coffee and drink it...
I suppose back then - the "PHARMACEUTICAL" type speed wasn't buffered with all of the things that they are now - that "constipate" a syringe, and they could "fire" that stuff too.
MY eduaction with the needle was from 1984-1994, and it was gradually building it's head of steam so far as potency at that time.
JUST as I was finsihing up and grabbing a bit of clarity was when the Ether Based poison started to become prevelant.
The quality went through the ceiling - BUT SO DID the CRAZINESS - the addictive potential AND the diffculty in then getting clean.
I was fortunate to get out before ICE hit the town - I KNOW I'd be dead.
ANYONE reading this - PLEASE don't go trying this because I've just described what you might be dreaming is "THE BOMB"!
As GOD is my witness, you CANNOT control this horror, and IF you'd ever CHOOSE recovery down the road, you are fighting a MONSTER!
The stats are somthing like: 90% of those who try it once come back for more. 95% of the return guests will come again, and then 98% of those who stick around for the party after the 5th try - are in it for good.
I'm going to catch alot of carp from the TOUGH GUYS out there, but that's the way I see it.
In my LIFE, I have never seen anyone who "chose" to leave it alone. It took drastic measures just to get the motivation to want to try to get straight.
And even more restrictive actions afterward.
Sure, there are folks who leave it alone for a month, two months... But this shat will end up OWNING the "USER" - Body Mind and Soul.
It's really a choice at the end - LIFE or METH.
Sorry, I really didn't aim to go off on my little soapbox derby car, I'm just pretty passionate about the subject. I GAVE it my health, my FAMILY for a long while... I suppose in some way - with the outreach I do now - I STILL give it too much of my attention!
Just in a more productive mannor!
Bottom line... What was once considered "SPEED KILLS", has progressed to the infinite degree.
Any help?
Best Wishes,
gypsy

Thank you, Richard--I can only imagine how difficult it was to get away from meth (or any addiction) and I'm glad you did. To spend a life as an addict would be a waste and a nightmare. Congratulations and stay strong!
After reading your explanation, I do remember something about Vicks inhalers, and as I also remember, that was toward the end of the years when Rx diet pills were still believed to be safe and were dispensed to just about anyone. For heaven's sake, the doctor even put me on them when I was 11 years old. (I'm really giving my age away now.) I suppose sometimes that stuff got cooked up too if a person could acquire it.
Thanks again for your insight. And to anyone who thinks Breaking Bad glamorizes drug use, I guess you've never actually watched the show. The writing and acting are brilliant, but there's nothing "glamorous" about it. Paranoia, melting a body in a bathtub, getting beaten, shot, and put into a car trunk, or always looking for your next high, going to jail--NONE of that looks like paradise to me.
Alexis,
I'm doing my absolute best to not be "profiled" as a spammer here, so - coyly - allow my suggestion - click my pic & check into what an X IV Meth Addict is up to NOWADAYS to attempt helping the CHILDREN of those suffering from the same mess.
As I said... My CHOICE for 10+ years was to allow this to take from me everything I had, and most everything I'd have ever wished to obtain... It took a near death experience to motivate me to move to hermitville for 2 years in order to regain my life and motivation...
Step by step - I reclaimed life.. My health is totaly suffering these days, but I HAVE my fFAMILY back!
HAPPY SOLE CUSTODIAL FATHER TO DAUGHTER!!!
To a wonderfully well adjusted 17 year old Daughter - considering the 1st four years of her life.
I've raised her myself for 12+ years!
THAT is a very seldom reported glad tiding from someone with a long METH HISTORY!
MY ABSOLUTE BEST , HAPPIEST DREAM would be to see AMC step up - just really really low key - to get behind something like this.
Yes Mam...
THIS SHOW is the most courageous Television step in the past two decades, all things being relative - since "LAUGH IN" or the "Smother's Brothers".
THANK YOU for such intelligent posts!
