Walt and Jesse: Take 2
When I was watching the pilot for the second time tonight, with the knowledge of all that's to come fresh in my mind, I couldn't help but reflect on how much Walt and Jesse's relationship evolved over the course of these very few episodes. In the premiere Walt approaches Jesse not with hints at perhaps paternal affection, like we see in the finale, and not even with tolerance, but almost with downright disgust and condescension.
The scene where he approaches Jesse at night was remarkable to me in that Walt doesn't even give Jesse a choice: he simply informs him the way things are going to be. I can't believe how far the two came in their relationship over the course of the next six episodes.
The other thing that occurred to me while I was watching is that the show never really returns to Skyler's two hobbies: her e-bay selling and her short story writing. I suppose that's a credit to the character's selflessness in the face of the events that are about to unfold in her life, but I hope that Vince Gilligan returns to these facets of here character -- they're interesting, and I think they could make for some great plot points.
What if Walt began "selling" on eBay? What if Skyler took some creative ideas from Walt's activities for her short stories?
Anyways, those were my impressions. What did you all think about the second time around?

*giggles*
I don't know about going back to Skylars hobbies as they hit a lil close to home for me.
Ebay? Check
Writing short stories - one has to wonder if perhaps Skylar is a fan fic writer Check!
Teenage child (enough said there) - check, check!
Clearly Mr' Gilligan knows a thing or two about middle age women.
No.
This will sound didactic but it would be a mistake to detail Skyler's ebay hobby or her short story writing, just as it would be inefficient and a waste of momentum to journalize sister-in-law's thieving habits too much.
Now if sis in law REALLY breaks bad and starts sleeping around with sordid characters and turns Hanks sideways who then collisions back into Walt, then you've got something.
But just to explore these miscellaneous little threads that are nothing more than background props for ancillary characters?
Thats where good shows go bad.
Walt's character development is the trajectory of the show. If the show loses focus off of HIS Breaking Bad it will become uninterestig and silly in a hurry.
I wouldn't worry about it much Panic. I think they know this is about Walt and Jessie and all these lil tidbits on the others are there only to flesh them out a bit more and nothing more.
I'm sure they're not gonna dwell on that stuff but you gotta give the the supporting players some depth of their own in the start here to make the viewers interested enough in them as individuals before you play them off the heart of the show which is clearly Walt and Jessie.
I know they're are great things ahead
I have loads of faith in the writing of this show
