Thank you for raising the status of chemistry teachers everywhere! I love the way you integrate the chemistry in the episodes....mercury fulminate, speed of reaction, HF eating through everything but plastic tubs.
I love the credits done with the element symbols from the periodic chart.
Good lab technique does make a difference!. I wonder how many students have found the program (I could not have recommended it because of the meth part) and have become a little more aware that sometimes knowledge is very advantageous to have. Instead of sleeping in those classrooms, learn a little. You never know when it might come in handy.
I'll start by saying I don't watch much TV at all, but I would never miss your show, and I don't plan on it.
I'm not speaking for all your viewers - okay, yes I am - do you see this series going past 2 seasons? I'm assuming it will be at least 2 considering there are a lot of things happening at this point and can't see all of them being wrapped up in this Sunday's episode. As you've read all the posts on the message board, you and your show has alot of followers who love the originallity this show brings to otherwise mundane shows on network TV. Please tell us all this show runs for multiple seasons (and perhaps longer seasons),
You have done a great job capturing the voice of a cancer patient. Did you do any research into this?
As a viewer, it seems very easy to slip into Walter Sr.'s shoes and live vicariously through him and his thought process. Is this character written specifically to accommodate this purpose? Being able to participate in Walter's self-discovery of what he can apply his (science) skills towards while he 180's across social standards is unbelievably awesome. As a science nerd myself, Breaking Bad is like a common "what-if" day-dream notion that actually gets carried to term. Did you go through a science track in school and have these same ideas? Super nerd fantasy executed by an amazing cast, writers, cinematographers, sound engineers, and all those other people that work on shows that no one ever knows about. Would love to co-write an episode.
Thanks so much for your great work. This is an excellent show that I don't and won't miss for anything. Walter is by far my favorite character. He is awesome. The character works on so many different levels. He represents a lot of us, people who work and try to do what is right while seemingly everyone else gets ahead. Whether it is the rude driver who cuts you off or the brown noser in the office who gets all of the promotions. My question is, who or what is the inspiration for this character in your own life? Thanks for taking my question and please keep up the great work.
The show really appeals to the repressed side of me as have movies like Falling Down, Network, and Fight Club. A potentially uncontrollable method of stimulating interest in the show would be to start a campaign/contest where students nominate teachers that are "Most Likely to Break Bad." Of course, they would have to supply supporting facts.
Run this past legal?
Vince,
What was your motivation for the cinematography and editing styles used in breaking bad? they are so cinematic that I sometimes feel as if I am watching a movie.
The balance of audio cutting, camera movement, and sequencing gives Breaking Bad a completely unique feel for todays television line up of serial drama's. kudos!

Vince,
A feature film would be your next step. Not a film remaking B Squared, but something new. Anything in the works?
Additionally. Have you considered publishing B Squared as a graphic novel?
I just caught the episode that aired March 2. It was the first time I saw this show and now I am hooked. I watched the first 2 episodes online and cannot wait for more new ones. My question is will there be another season??
Time lapse shots are very effective!,Not many directors use this
My question is are you going to let loose in the next season & show the absolute horrors of meth abuse.....
Maybe a few deaths from Walts cooking!
I used to live in Hamilton Ontario & saw the effects of crack abuse.very real & sad........Meth hadn't hit there then .But I'm sure its rampid there now!...hey you've gone this far with a very daring & experimental type subject.take it to the Max
I don't feel your show in any way glorifies meth.....Only tells a story of dispair & the lives that are affected by bad decisions
Heres a track.Maybe you could use it in an upcoming episode....Canadian based band

VG,
Let me say I dont get WOW'ed easy but this show has done it to me. My question is concerning casting. Did you cast all the main characters in the normal hollywood manner, (casting calls) or where some actors preordained to their rolls and your vision for the show?
Footnote: I feel you might be directly or indirectly responsible for Bryan Cranston's ability to break out of the public's perception of him in the "frantic comedic dad role".
Best for the future,
JP Bordon
Did the Idea of using fulminated mercury in episode 6 come from Ensign Pulver (played by Jack Lemmon) and the laundry room in what might be one of the funniest scenes ever in a war comedy?
Vince,
Sure hope this new project has been worth your time - as it has certainly been worth it for me to make it "appointment television". (I've always found that to be an odd term - as if generations before us didn't ever make plans to watch their favorite TV programs).
In any case, here are a few of my own questions.
1. Breaking Bad seemed to emerge as a bright spot of TV programming during the writers' strike. Did the strike effect the series at all (maybe the number of episodes making up this seemingly small "season")?
2. I have a good feeling there will be a Season 2. How many episodes will make up a more traditional full season on AMC? (And I'm sure I won't be the only one asking as to when the NEXT season starts.)
Okay, now the LONG (slightly meandering) one.
3. The way the show's foul language, drug use and sexual situations are handled is very well done and not insulting to the adult audience for which the show is intended - making the show seem more like a recent feature film that's been expertly adapted to the small screen (as if each censoring decision was painstakingly reviewed) rather than relying on typical network snap "offend no one" judgements.
However, as someone involved in television in the 21st century, you must understand that your show has multiple outlets of distribution (again, look at that writer's strike again). I've just now seen that viewers of your show are upset that the versions that are available for download from the iTunes Store (and I would presume Amazon.com) have different censoring standards than those broadcast on AMC.
Were you aware of this further censoring of the digital download versions of your show? If so, was that the necessary trade-off in order to ensure placement of the show's downloads on high profile download sites?
I haven't downloaded too many episodes of ANY TV show and was about to do so for the March 3rd episode, but now I'm concerned about this being a common practice. I would have hoped that the version you get online is the same version you see for its first run on TV as the show creators intended it to be seen.
I'll close by saying this is definitely admirable, groundbreaking work done by a gifted, intelligence cast and crew.
Thanks!

Vince,
I spent two days here trying to come up with what to ask. A lot of stuff ran through my mind but in the end I think I'll keep it simple.
The show is fantastic. Anyone who sees Breaking Bad sees it for the truly great show that it is. Since there is no questioning it - this show is a huge creative success for you and every else involved, I wanted to ask how it feels.
You've created something amazing.
How do you feel when those closing credits roll?
Congrats my friend!

Vince,
Super show. I can barely wait for the next new episode.
A second season would be cool as long as it doesn't turn into a "Heroes (NBC)" disaster- ruined by stretching a great story unnecessarily.
I'm really looking forward to more uncomfortable situations that Walt gets into and more disturbing violence.
Thanks!
Great show! I am originally from Albuquerque and now live two states away. I love the way the city is used as a character in the show. For those who are familiar with Albuquerque, it's easy to orient yourself (the Sandia Mountains are to the east and the volcanos on the west), so it's easy to pick out where scenes are shot. I especially appreciate the "desert" scenes, the red rocks, and the scenery shots south of the city. I was pleasantly surprised to see my favorite restaurant in the background of one of the most surprising shots when Walt blew up the Porche as it idled in front of a gas station. I think Albuquerque was the totally appropriate city in which to film.
I was flipping through the channels the other night and noticed that Breaking Bad is also showing on the Independent Film Channel (or maybe it's Sundance? The two channels are next to each other on my satellite TV). The only change I noticed between the IFC and AMC versions was the foul language; however I am curious if you are considering a release to IFC that might include a more "intense" version of that shown on AMC?
Thanks for creating such an awesome show. I missed last week's show because I was returning north from a trip to Albuquerque! (My red chile fix got the best of me after seeing Las Cuartes on TV :o) I'm sad to see there is only one show left for the season.

Great show! I have been hooked from day one. Hope to see more - Cranston is great! I've been in a similar situation and I'm glad to see how realistic this is. Talk about healing!
Bravo!!! I love this show! The writting is excellent and intriging that's why it's captured the attention of so many.I cannot wait to see how future episodes will unfold. The fact that the first season will be over as of this Sunday is unbeleiveable to say the least! I feel cheated...but in a good way. When will the show resume? I'd like to see more D.E.A. dialog in the future and based on the comments I've read on this site, others feel the same way. They add a whole other element to the show although their job is a very serious one, they add a little humor which makes the whole piece feel well rounded. Thank you for creating such an amazing series!
What is your rationale/influence/purpose of starting episodes at the end or middle and then doubling back?
No complaints about that style. It gives a disoriented, flash-back feel to the story. Just wondering about the creative process.
I love this show. How in the world did any of the major networks let this one go away?
This is a brilliant show. I am very impressed with the creativity of the show. I cannot wait until next season. Please don't let this series die before you tell the entire story. There have been many series in which haven't been completely concluded. Don't let this be one of them. And don't let the major networks get a hold of this series. Brian Cranston is a bright shining star!
