Props, Realism and Intensity

So what exactly is the dude smoking with his blowtorch and glass pipe? I mean is there actually something relatively innocuous that you can do that with for the sake of realism or is it pretty toxic in it's own right (however legal it might be) and just an occupational hazard of the role? The show is incredible and, not unlike Mad Men, its draw seems in large part due to being willing, even committed, to go to the places in peoples' lives that are considered too boring, too private or too volatile for the stomach of most network executives. Bravo.

I'm not exactly sure what he's smoking, though I'll ask and get back to you. If it helps, the actors in Mad Men smoke herbal cigarettes, basically like incense. Matthew Weiner said that they're not great for you, but nothing like cigarettes. He also left it up to the cast whether they wanted to smoke or not, and said he had a rule of thumb that if they'd never smoked, they wouldn't be smoking on the show.

I would guess something similar is happening here, but I'll get back to you.

Shakespearean Character Catharsis:

A series with stunning realism and relevance.

Delicate social situations are presented with a sense of honesty and extreme irony.

I truly believe we are all tragic heroes. Its been a while since a TV show has actually allowed me to experience empathy.

I congratulate all creative minds assisting with the creation of this program. I look forward to the 4th episode greatly! Who says tv is dead? Bravo!!!!!!

Does anyone know how many episodes the season is?

I too love this show and have been a fan of Bryan Cranston since the Malcom days. Part of what makes this show so good is that's not filmed like a tv show but rather they use a great DP with Oscar(s) to his name, so it looks incredible and can replace dialog with visuals. Clever and smart.
I also emphasize with the character. I'm one of the millions of Americans who are being destroyed by our current Health "Care" options. Even though I have a job with benefits I'm being pushed into the streets. I too have thought of committing a crime to pay bills and leave something for my child.
