Easy Way Out
I think Walt got the easy way out when he discovered that Krazy 8 had a weapon and was planning on killing him first chance he got, thus making the murder much more palatable in his mind.
It would have made things much more interesting if Walt noticed the missing piece of the broken plate, killed Krazy 8 thinking it was self-defense and then discovered the missing piece had skidded away or was hidden under the furnace or something. Then he would've been stuck with the knowledge that he had killed a man who might , in fact, have meant him no harm.
I just think that would've been a much more interesting way to go.

I kind of agree--it was a big conclusion to leap to that because he couldn't immediately reassemble the plate, it must be because Krazy was planning on killing him.
That said, I wouldn't describe that scene as "easy." Aside from the shear brutality of it, I think the ramifications for Walt's conscience will be far-reaching. Just think of the way he was crying and pleading, "I'm sorry" afterwards. Even though he knew he had to do it, it was a chore he struggled with. I don't think it's ever as easy or as cut-and-dry as "Well, it was self-defense, no harm done." That in itself, I think, is pretty interesting.
Then I love how they had him sitting in his beat up SUV on the overpass, staring at nothing.
You can really feel Walt's spiral into the "abyss".
I also love the cinematography of this show. It really plays out like a big-screen movie.
If you have the option to watch the on-demand version in HD, I highly recommend it.
Although, one complaint...... episode III was supposed to be on-demand on Comcast this past Monday, but it wasn't. I had to watch the standard version that I recorded on my DVR (I'm sure that you hi-def snobs out there can feel my pain!!)
That makes quite a few Comcast On Demand complaints--I'm looking into it, rest assured.
I don't agee that he had the easy way out. Killing someone is never easy when you have a conscience. Although it may have opened up an additional layer of "bad things happening" to Mr. White, it isn't realistic to think that Krazy 8 would have meant him no harm. Just like the real mafia, Krazy 8 would have killed him and his family; it's the code. His character had already stated that his treatment was inhumane, and earlier, he and Emilio showed no hesitation in killing them both when Mr. White was suspected of being a DEA agent. In this case, the writers nailed it.
Krazy 8 had no choice but to kill Walt if he had the chance. 8 was a snitch and Walt killed his cousin. There was no choice in his mind. Although they both had a concience and wanted to walk away, neither could. They were forced into the situation.
