Will the Writers' Strike Affect Breaking Bad?

Has Season 1 of Breaking Bad been affected by the writerss strike? I've tried unsuccessfully to find out how many episodes have been completed, and I'm scared to think that it will all be over after 4 or 5. Please don't suck me into the World of Walt, only to yank me back out of it! Please!

Jesse's Motorcycle, What Is It?

Is it a 1989 Kawasaki Concourse?????

Fan Mail Address?

While it's terribly old-fashioned in this day and age, I personally like to put pen to paper in appreciation for a job well done.

I would most definitely like to express that appreciation when it comes to this show, its creator and its spectacular cast. Does anyone have any idea where to get a mailing address for AMC and or the production company behind Breaking Bad?

Bryan Cranston: Beyond Malcolm in the Middle

One of our loyal commenters, JP Bordon, has recently posted an interesting topic:

I don't know what possessed Bryan Cranston to take this challenging role but kudos. Great first script, editing and directing. I have not seen him in anything but sitcoms and he usually played that comedic frantic father role. I could always see great performance even in those rolls but because of the high profile of Fox's Malcolm in the Middle I was afraid he was doomed to play this type cast forever.

I really think he wont be looked at the same after this. All I can say is WOW, great move and great depth as an actor! --JP Bordon

I think JP makes a great point, because Walt White is both in line with, and at the same time a total departure from Cranston's role on Malcolm in the Middle. They're both devoted family men, and both give off this sense of reluctance about almost every facet of their lives. And yet Walt is so different--I can't see Hal breaking bad, but for Walt it was not only understandable, it seemed inevitable.

What do you think the differences between the two characters are? Has Bryan Cranston broken new ground or reshaped it?

Different Versions of Breaking Bad

Many of you have asked about the two different formats of the premiere episode of Breaking Bad.

The following is the official statement from AMC explaining the difference between the two versions, the reasons for them, and what to expect in future episodes:

As part of AMC's commitment to presenting a cinematic and immersive entertainment experience to our audience we prepared two versions of the pilot of Breaking Bad. The first version, which aired at 10PM on Sunday, January 20th was presented without commercial interruption in order to provide an experience that is as immersive and exciting as possible. Subsequent versions of the show have been shown with limited commercial breaks which have required an edit with a shorter run time and a TV-14 Rating.

All episodes after the pilot episode will be presented in one version in all time slots.

You can catch a special encore presentation of the premiere tonight January 24 10PM | 9C

Filmed on Location

Besides being very impressed for all the reasons others have already mentioned, I am also very impressed that the show was actually filmed in Albuquerque & surrounding areas. The car wash was one we drive by regularly. The license plates and fire engines were all authentic. The drug house looks to have been located in a typical Westside tract neighborhood. Sadly for our town, it is a VERY ACCURATE portrayal of the darker side of life here. One example: when the fire trucks speed by him standing there with a gun in his underwear, it is not even noticed by the firemen. They've seen much weirder, especially out in the rural areas. If you saw the local news every day, you'd know what I mean. Even the older episodes of COPS from the 90's tell the story of our colorful characters. Our film industry is growing rapidly here. I'd love to see more than Westerns and Biker movies filmed here, so this was refreshing. Maybe the next one will highlight some of our positives, or I fear we'll never get past our third-world reputation. Any other locals out there? Would love to hear your take on this!

Breaking Bad Could Be Dangerous

I posted this on another forum but I really think Breaking Bad could be a very dangerous show to have on TV during a post-SiCKO, recessionary presidential election year.

SiCKO was about the UNDERinsured as evidenced by Walter's ambulance ride. You mean to tell me that a teacher wouldn't have better health coverage??? It's one thing for a MILF-y Jewish widow to get into the weed game but we CANNOT have middle class, white men moonlighting at minimum wage jobs being pushed to the edge and going off the grid. It only took three weeks for Walter to go from veggie bacon to standing in the middle of the desert in his underwear with a gun.

Walter really could be your kid's chemistry teacher--or your neighbor. How many Walters are out there who are perilously close to foreclosure or defaulting on credit cards? Or just one serious illness or accident away from financial ruin? Like Walter's brother-in-law said, meth is easy money until you get caught.

Whether it was done consciously or not, the pilot episode touched on some very real issues that Americans are dealing with. And that's why I'll be watching Sunday night!

Breaking Bad Is Great Television

Just like Deadwood, (speaking of which Anna Gunn played Seth Bullock's wife, and now Walters wife) and The Sopranos, this is classic television drama.

The storyline particularly resonates with me because I have just turned 50, quit smoking, and have an obligation to care for someone that is handicapped. (pulling up the young boys pants in Episode 1 and seeing Walt largely ignored on his 50th Birthday, you get a sense of the end of something that is never coming back.)

So I immediately saw Walt in myself, and feel the desperation he feels, trying to hold it together financially working two jobs in America circa 2008 where there is no respect for what you do.

Watching Walt become passionate for a minute in his lecture, only to be rudely interrupted by the kid flirting, the owner of the car wash having Walt scrub tires for minimum wage, the inevitability of an untimely death due to Cancer pull us in to a world that could happen in real life. The drama is heavy.

Stellar acting and great writing and production!

Wonder Woman
1969, the premeire episode was uncut and uncensored I am not sure why the second airing censored the language, some scenes were cut for commercials for the encore airing which you saw.
