jane quote "i gotta go"

"This is freedom. This is saying, "I can go anywhere I want. I can be anybody." "

From 2.12, "Phoenix"

I think this really sums Jane up pretty well, the idea that money (especially lots of it) is the solution to everything. I think it's important to note that she didn't say "we can go anywhere we want". It would have been great if Krysten Ritter could have stayed on the show without being such a destructive force, but I will accept great writing over keeping one actress.

@poettdoc and chairguru22: Since you two both went above and beyond what was asked for here, adding editorial comment to your favorite Janeism, hating on our favorite girl of the blog-moment here, here's mine to yours.

chairguru22: " "On second thought, I take that back. This is blackmail."
episode 12 season 2
This is when the sweet and innocent Jane that you always liked turns into the girl you have to hate."

poettdoc: " "This is freedom. This is saying, 'I can go anywhere I want. I can be anybody..." ...This really sums Jane up pretty well, the idea that money (especially lots of it) is the solution to everything... "

I think you two are being hard on and unfair to the girl, especially considering she got killed for her supposed sins. What, like Walt and Jesse aren't primarily about making 'large, yo!' ...enough to make and sell meth. Freaking Jesse and Walt were indirectly responsible for lots of people doing hard drugs. When do you start to hate on the 'pusher man?' And Jane is supposedly the 'destructive force'?

Jane worked hard, she got on the horn and took the bull by the horns, to get the money that was owed her boyfriend. Yes, she played hardball, because baldy was being an outright cheat and thief. Walt had no right to withhold Jesse's cut, to instead judge him. Especially considering Walt is the Meth King of the Southwest, and a big-time liar to the entire family that shares his home. A deal is a deal, business is business, and what Jesse decides to do with his earnings is his choice. Hell, the way Walt was acting, if he could have gotten away with it, he'd never given Jesse his share.

Jane threatened blackmail because she knew Walt would cave. If Walt had called her bluff, and Jane went through with blowing the whole operation wide open, she would have had a hard time explaining it to her lover when as a result he was then put behind bars. You think she would have done that to Jesse? I think not. But she knew it would never come to that. She was too clever. Just not clever enough to anticipate Walt would make her pay dearly for even threatening blackmail.

When Jane said, "This is freedom. This is saying, 'I can go anywhere I want. I can be anybody..." This was not a monologue. She was conversing with Jesse, saying what this what money says to whoever holds it. And that that could mean the two of them could make a brand new start together, and leave the drug life behind. As noted by irishtoast above, "Jane says to Jesse as they walk thru the bedroom with the money......
"but first we gotta get clean" "

Jane had been a former drug-addict, trying to do her tattoo art and keep it clean. But she fell in love with Jesse. Jesse then turned her back onto the drug life.

Jane did not love money. Jane loved art, creativity, getting high, and Jesse.

Walt had no right to kill Jesse's girl.

Jesse and I will miss ya, Jane.
Peace & love,
x Mike
