Bryan Cranston Brings Home Second Emmy
Bryan Cranston has done it again: Breaking Bad's Emmy-winning actor picked up his second consecutive trophy as Best Actor in a Drama Series at the 61st Annual Primetime Emmy awards Sunday night. "Lee Trevino was struck by lightning twice," Cranston said, accepting the award. "Now I know how he feels."
The veteran actor faced stiff competition for the honor: Dexter's Michael C. Hall, House's Hugh Laurie, In Treatment's Gabriel Byrne, The Mentalist's Simon Baker and AMC's own Jon Hamm of Mad Men. (Click here to read more about Mad Men's Emmy wins.)
The award was Breaking Bad's second of the year, the first of which went to Lynne Willingham, who picked up the best editing trophy -- her second consecutive as well -- at the Creative Arts Emmys last week.
AMCtv.com congratulates Breaking Bad and Mad Men for all their successes.

Awesome. Gratulations to Bryan and Lynee- Both awards were well deserved.
I'm disappointed to see that Aaron Paul didn't take one home as well (dude earned it), but there's always next time.
Congrats Bryan and Lynne on your 2nd consecutive Wins. Aaron Paul did'nt win, but was nominated and that is a big step in the right direction, people have taken notice...
I was very pleased that Mr. Cranston won his second Emmy, and very disappointed that Aaron Paul did not win his first. I was also disappointed that Breaking Bad didn't win best drama. Though I enjoy watching Mad Men, which I do every Sunday, in my opinion Breaking Bad is head-and-shoulders better than any drama on television. I cannot wait for season three.
Congratulations Bryan Cranston!!!! I am sure many would agree with all the heavy competition, Breaking Bad, clearly is the winner in all accounts. What makes Breaking Bad so memorable is the way it presents a highly sensitive subject matter of the drug world that is so previlent in today's society.... how society wishes to push under it under a rug and pretend it doesn't exist. Not only is Breaking Bad entertaining, but adds touches of humor along with a message of the consequences of misguided behavior. Congratulations for all who has made Breaking Bad such a success!
Btw..did anyone else see Hank all dressed up in a tux and giving the camera a great smile and smirk? He looked quite handsome in that black tie attire and appeared to be very proud of himself at the red carpet for the Emmys....Hey Hank, you looked fantastic!
And.....Skyler, (Anna Gunn) at the red carpet for the Emmy's look absolutely radiant in her gown, minus the baby bump we have seen her in so many episodes.
Goob job Mister Cranston !
How about a third one now ? :p
Congrats Bryan and Lynne and everybody else on the team for making BB the best character study on TV today. The sky is the limit on what depths of the soul this show can ultimately chronicle. Here's to many more seasons and many more awards to ALL associated with this GREAT show.
The board's been being temperatmental for the past few days, so I'm not sure if my comment last night registered, so I'll post it here again:
Two years in a row! Congratulations, Bryan Cranston! You da man! And Aaron Paul, YOU da man, TOO!
Anybody else having problems with the board?!?
Again, I don't believe in awards, but still I am glad Breaking Bad won these two awards, for it should help bringing in new viewers and help keep the show going. So cheers!
PS @rockmama - the comment I just left now, after I submitted, did not show up posted at first. But then I refreshed and it had arrived.
PPS Of course, I would have liked to see BB win more awards so it would only win more acclaim. I already know Aaron Paul, Anna Gunn and the show itself are the best.
Yes, Rockmama..I, too have been having problems with the talking forum board!
My home computer is toast and we have to get a new one. Luckily our credit card is paid off!
Anyway, on Sunday night we had the misfortune to be having a rain/thunderstorm in my section of the Midwest during the Emmy's broadcast (I was also switching back and forth between Mad Men). Right at 10:45, our satellite lost the signal. I swore at the TV set and she pulled through and gave me what I wanted...another win for Bryan Cranston!
Seriously, I love that dude!!! I was sad for Aaron, but his time is coming! Just keep building on last season and your efforts will be rewarded!
Thanks, thewaymouth for the helpful hint about using "refresh" to find missing posts! Trouble is, I had to figure it out on my own before I could read your post - because MOST of the recent posts (including that one) weren't showing up. I hope no one else who wants to post is having the same problem.
Congatulations to Brian and Lynne and the entire cast and crew of by far the best show on TV for winning two Emmys! !
Congratulations Bryan, well deserved! I wonder to what extent the voters actually sit down, watch the actors' submission episodes, and then vote. Because to the extent they did that, there was no possible way anyone could reasonably not choose Bryan after watching Phoenix. Sucks Aaron didn't win, but he'll have many chances I think. He got a great reception from the audience when they announced his name when giving out his award, so his peers definitely seem to have noticed. It was great how psyched Aaron was when they announced Bryan's win too. It seemed like he couldn't have been happier at this own win.
Bryan Cranston is without a doubt one of America's finest actors. Congratulations to the cast and crew of Breaking Bad, you should be so proud of such a fine television program.
Byrne, Baker & Hall? Naaaah! Cranston nails it with a plum role. He is truly great....and so are YOU Mr Aaron Paul, if you're reading this! YOUR Emmy is coming. I haven't a shred of doubt about that, so don't be discouraged. You & Brian are the best team on TV, and Breaking Bad is the best show. I'm a big Man Men fan, too, but getting a little tired of Jon Hamm's "subtlety." That show's turning into a fashion parade.
First of all, congrats to Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul for their Emmy nominations this year.
While Bryan Cranston DEFINITELY deserved his 2nd Emmy this year for his role in Breaking Bad, I was quite disappointed that his co-star, Aaron Paul did not win anything. He really came into his own this year with some phenomenal acting during season 2 that was easily on a par with Bryan Cranston's work. Stunning performances from both of them this year.
I was also shocked that Breaking Bad (the show) didn't come away with the Emmy for best drama series. While Breaking Bad was nominated, Mad Men (another AMCTV original show) came away with the title. I have heard good things about Mad Men, but nothing that would suggest that it is on a par with Breaking Bad. In my opinion, Breaking Bad is in a league of it's own. Never before have I watched such a captivating series. From the concept, to the writing, to the casting, to the acting, to the directing, and even down to the soundtrack, Breaking Bad shines with a brilliance and a perfection never before aired on American Television.
I hope they decide to extend the length of Season 3 to twice as many episodes than they had in Season 2. 9 months TOO long to have to wait for 13 more episodes of Breaking Bad! While I am waiting impatiently for the next amazing season of Breaking Bad, I suppose I will have to start watching Mad Men! In the meantime, please bring on the Season 2 Breaking Bad DVDs! What the heck are you waiting for AMC? The WORLD wants to see those!
Fulminated Mercury: I've been watching them both, and I think Mad Men Season 1 was clearly better than Breaking Bad Season 1, but Breaking Bad season 2 was easily far better than Mad Men season 2 and deserved the Emmy without question. MM season 1 was similar to BB 2, a crazy ride in which every episode was intense and left you thinking about it all week waiting until the next episode, and the story arc built to two of the best TV scenes ever (Pete and Don in Cooper's office in the second to last episode and then Don's just emotionally devastating Kodak presentation in the finale). Even as much as I hated the last 5 minutes of BB2, at least they tried something. I was watching the clock in the last half hour of MM2 and kept asking, "seriously, nothing at all is going to happen this season after that amazing build up and culmination in season 1?" And nothing happened. This has continued into season 3 for MM, which has become seriously self indulgent and lazy (many good scenes in every episode, but there's no underlying plot at all, it's all atmosphere now and almost no story), while to this point, Breaking Bad is balls to wall all out every episode. If BB can keep that runaway freight train feel going in season 3, I think they'll come out on top (and, let's be serious, there are no other shows that come close enough to AMC's two to reasonably merit Emmy voters' consideration). I get the sense from reading a bunch of TV journalists' Emmy prediction write ups that most people thought Aaron had the best performance this year, which I think without doubt he did, but a lot of people also figured that in Lost's last season Michael Emerson should be recognized when he still could be and that it wouldn't be a big deal since Aaron's young and they'll have many chances to give it to him in the future. Eventually Bryan's probably going to lose too, not on merits but because Hugh Laurie does good work and deserves at least one trophy even if Bryan was actually better every year.
Thanks for your comments Stavrogin. It is obviously unfair of me to judge MM without having seen it. Thanks to your comments I have now begun watching Season One.
The other day I was discussing Breaking Bad with my father, who is just as big a fan as I, and he reminded me that Anna Gunn's acting was also just as worthy of Emmy consideration as Bryan Cranston's and Aaron Paul's. While I hadn't realized it before, I agree completely. There are so many brilliant actors in Breaking Bad, it's hard to keep them all sorted! (Unfortunately there aren't enough Emmy's categories to hand them out to each cast member in that show, but they certainly are deserved.)
I suppose major kudos are in order for BB's Casting Director. Job VERY well done I would say.
One last note to Stavrogin, I couldn't disagree with you more about the last 5 minutes of S2 of Breaking Bad! All season long I had been contemplating what events could possibly have lead to the pink bear in the pool scene, and never in a million years would I have guessed the way it ended up going down. I was very impressed by the writers' ability to keep the show unpredictable. During the final episode of S2 I was on the edge of my seat the entire episode... until the last 5 minutes where I was standing in front of the TV wringing my hands together. I don't think it was until the last 60 seconds that I was actually standing in front of the television, shouting! Never can I recall having been so thrilled by a television show before!
Congrats Mr. Cranston:
I knew that from the 1st,that you and your cast were extra special. As for the writing, parexcellence,#1.
Thanks for the great entertainment.
You"ve got me hooked now,I don't miss an episode, and turn people on to the show whenever possible.
Thank you very much again,
Am looking forward to the show's future.
Keep it up you all.

I was struck by how many true stars television lost this year. Individually it must have slipped past me that so many greats were leaving us, but to see the names and faces in succession was truly sad.
