The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced today their nominees for the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards, and Breaking Bad received five nominations in the Best Drama, Outstanding Lead Actor, Outstanding Supporting Actor, Outstanding Cinematography and Outstanding Editing categories.

In the Outstanding Drama category, Breaking Bad shares a nomination with HBO's Big Love, FX's Damages, Showtime's Dexter, Fox's House, ABC's Lost and AMC's own Mad Men (click here for more info).

Returning champion Bryan Cranston (click here to read an exclusive interview) is once again nominated in the Outstanding Lead Actor Category, sharing a nomination with Mad Men's Jon Hamm. The two AMC leads will be up against heavies like Dexter's Michael C. Hall, House's Hugh Laurie, In Treatment's Gabriel Byrne and The Mentalist's Simon Baker.

Aaron Paul (click here to read an exclusive interview) received his first-ever awards nomination for his portrayal of Jesse Pinkman. He'll be up against John Slattery (nominated for the second time in a row for his work on Mad Men), Boston Legal's Christian Clemenson and William Shatner, Lost's Michael Emerson and Damages' William Hurt.

Rounding out the nominations, Director of Photography Michael Slovis (click here to read an exclusive interview) received a nod in the Outstanding Cinematography category for his work on Episode 13 "ABQ," and last year's Emmy-winner Lynne Willingham (click here to read an interview) received a follow-up nomination in the Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing category.

The awards ceremony will be held on Sun., Sep. 13 in Los Angeles and broadcast on CBS.

I hope Aaron Paul will win an Emmy this year... It's well deserved and long past due.

I'd like to see a clean sweep for all 5 nominations, this Show deserves it.

Congrats! Hope you get it all! "BB" is the best show on TV and Bryan and Aaron are my favourites

user-pic

Hurray for five well-deserved nominations! Congratulations, Bryan Cranston, Michael Slovis, Lynne Willingham, of course Vince Gilligan and EVERYONE involved in the show!...and a special happy dance for Aaron Paul's nom. I've been hoping for that for months!

congrads.........though it's a shame you only got 5!!!

good luck......AND HURRY UP WITH SEASON 3 ALREADY hahahaha cheeers

user-pic

Congrats to all involved! . . . . The only competition I see is from "Lost" in the category of Outstanding Drama.

go aaron!

Way to go BB!

Congratulations! I am disappointed they didn't get a nomination for writing. The portrayl of Walt and Jesse's lives, how they intertwine, and some of their unsympathetic actions (that they actually make palatable to the viewing public via their acting, but also because of the script) should've been acknowledged for writing. The premise of this series would not be easy to present in any sympathetic or humane way, but the writers manage to do it! The writing deserved an Emmy nod.

Aaron Paul is up against some heavy-hitters in the supporting category, but I think he was equal, if not superior, to his peers in this category. He really did outstanding work this year in expanding on the complexities of his character, Jesse Pinkman. Aaron made Jesse be a person way beyond the cardboard junkie caricature that you so often see in television and film. Really great work.

FANTASTIC!
While I agree 100% on the writing being more than deserving I have to say I'm absolutely thrilled to see all these well deserved (especially Aaron!) nominations.

Breaking Bad is superior TV and its refreshing to see that being recognized.

Adoring Froggy CONGRATULATIONS to all five nominees, our shows creator Vince Gilligan, the entire cast and crew as well as AMC for bringing us Breaking Bad and taking TV drama to a whole new level of excellence.

Is it Sept yet?

CONGRATULATIONS to the entire BB Team. I'm really thrilled at BB's Emmy nominations and can't wait to see BB get the all around recognition it deserves. Bryan Cranston's and Aaron Paul's performances in season two were absolutely astonishing. They have really earned top honors and I can't wait to see them win. BB has raised the bar for all TV dramas.

I'm still going through withdrawal after season two and anxiously await season three.

user-pic

Congrats BB! All 5 nominations (and awards) are very much deserved. We can't wait for season#3.

user-pic

Major congratulations to everyone on the Breaking Bad crew!! Your viewers and cheerleaders (us) are all so proud of you and so pleased! I'm especially glad that Aaron Paul is being recognized for his superior work as Jesse.

This year I'll be sure to watch the awards show.

I agree with jamm54...the writers were unjustly overlooked. Especially for "Peakaboo."

WAAAAHHOOOOIEEEE!!!

user-pic

YES!!! Aaron Paul definitely ought to win an Emmy for his work. He's outstanding. And the writing and camera work are superb. I love this show. Congratulations!

Breaking Bad, easily the best written, best acted, best directed and thought-out show on television, deserves to win all 5 Emmys.

Both Cranston and Paul are incredible !!

Keep it coming !!

Best damned show on TV, deserves to win in all categories...

I hope fellow fans who enjoy the complex philosophical aspects of the characters and story will consider contributing to the following book I am editing:

Congratulations!! We're all extremely happy & excited about this!
As far as we're concerned...it's in the bag! A total sweep of all categories!

Good show, but in comparison to Sopranos much less realistic. Sopranos rules.
I hope it gets better in the next season.(for example there were too many coincidences in the last episode.)
BTW: why does he still shave his head? I thought hair stops growing in(most) patients during chemo?

user-pic

The show wouldn't have the heart or the style or the energy it has without Aaron Paul. If he doesn't win I'll be pissed.

I'm so glad to see so many other Aaron fans. Walt & Jesse are two of the best written characters on TV today. This show blows any other drama I've seen lately, except for maybe Battlestar Galactica, away. So glad it's filmed here in New Mexico. Any chance your locations could include the Mineshaft Tavern in Madrid? Good luck to all the nominees, keep up the great work. Jonesing seriously at the end of summer.....

I think Aaron is overdue for a nomination, too. Walt and Jesse are two of the best written characters on tv today. Breaking Bad blows all other dramas I've seen lately away. I hope Bryan and Aaron and all the other nominees from this show take all the awards. I'm so glad this show is filmed here in New Mexico, any chance of a shoot here in Madrid at the famous Mineshaft Tavern?
