What I saw was completely and utter indifference from Walt Sr. He saw Junior puke and there was no sign of anything. Hank made a move towards Walt Junior, but then backed off while Walt Senior just sat back down in his chair to finish off that shot of Tequila. The look on Walt's face was cold and hard, Walt was not feeling anything for Junior.

user-pic

To add to my previous comment, Walt also conflicted at that Moment. Was it Walt Senior or Heisenberg? That hard look was also a result of Hank moving in on Walters "Territory". My Son, My Bottle, My House.

default userpic

I think Walt was teaching Walt Jr. a lesson by letting him drink as much as he wanted, so that when he was sick he it would put him of it. Walt was happy that his plan had worked when Jr. vomited. I also think Walt wanted to show he had more power over Hank in his own house. The last time they had a party, Hank let Walt Jr. play with a gun when walt didn't want him too. Now Walt has extra confidence, he wanted to prove a point by not explaining himself to Hank and doing what he wanted.

default userpic

That wasn't really Walt....that was Heisenberg. Walt would not have let Jr. drink in the first place if Walt had been there. Now Heisenberg's reaction was a smirk, realizing that he had not only beat Hank, but took command of his household.

default userpic

Walt was under the influence of the all-mighty Tequila. From my past experiences with this alcohol, I know how it creates monsters (that's why I don't drink it anymore!). My initial reaction to Walt's smirk when Junior threw up in the pool was "What a JERK!" But then, the more I thought about it, the more I thought that Walt was unleashing Heisenberg fueled by the power of Te-kill-ya.

Of course he was going to smirk--His Son, His Bottle, His House! Damn Straight!

(Sad to admit...I think I've been a Heisenberg a time or two under the influences of te-kill-ya.)

user-pic

1) I thought he was really drunk. Even though I hate tequila and never take shots of it, I felt the sensation of getting hammered right along with Walt. There's a place where drinkers go in their head when they're really shit-faced and quite honestly, you just don't care about anything else at that point.

2) He made his point with Hank and now, he was going to "allow" Hank the privilege of being Daddy for the moment and cleaning up Walt Jr. Sort of like, "you wanna be his father...have at it!"

3) Although Walt's behavior won't win him father of the year (like Hank mentioned), I didn't consider it to be a real slight against his son. It was a snap decision made because of the amount of alcohol consumed.

4) Any similarity to persons living or dead is purely coincidental.

default userpic

As we have seen Walt is bored. I interpreted his apathy toward Walter Junior vomiting as both an attempt to create some chaos and an attempt to stick it to Hank who has usurped his father role so many times before. All of this was magnifed by Walter Senior's inebriation which impaired his judgement.

Also, did I miss something or did Walt lie to his son about apologizing to Hank?

default userpic

In this moment of pure selfishness, Walt didn't think anything at all other than the fact that he was alone with his pain and that nobody can understand what he was feeling or living for the past 3 months. Drinking with who ever was at the table was a way to share his pain with others. He felt bad the day after when being sober, as any other father or parent being in front of a situation like this: a shame of himself for having bring his son in his misfortune.

Funny that his son was seeing the event as the acceptation of his father as him becoming a man and nothing else. And this is why the show is so good. The dramatic scenes become funnier with the situation and excellent performance of the actors.

Breaking Bad is a piece of art: from each dialogues to every camera angles.

Thanks to the crew. BTW the podcast 209 was outstanding. We feel the passion behind everyone working on the show.

user-pic

I think Walt was massaging his own ego.
He feels weak and ashamed inside.
He was outwardly taking it out on his son so he could feel like he was somehow more in control of things.
The fact is, Walt can't control himself, and although he's not addicted to meth, he's addicted to selling it.
I think when Jr puked, he felt the same way a bully feels when he picks on someone weaker, he felt empowered.
Although there seemed to be an underlying lesson as he was smirking at JR, it was kind of a mixture of, don't F with me, and don't F with alcohol.

default userpic

I think Walt Sr. was making a point to Hank by using his son as the prop. He wanted to let Hank know that it was his house, his son, his tequila. It wasn't really Walt Sr. but more or less the Heisenberg side of him. Walt has grown to have two personalities now. The daring side and the soft side. It was a point of putting Hank in his proper place by letting him know that it's Walt's family and he has no say so in decisions anymore. Like the fact in the 1st season where Hank let Walt Jr. hold the gun. I don't think Walt Sr. would let that happen again.

default userpic

It was all about control, and the power that is now missing in his "normal" life. He needed to show Hank who was in charge. Unfortunately, and selfishly it came at Jr's expense.

user-pic

Walt wasn't reacting to his son vomiting in the pool at all. His little smile was all about putting Hank in his place. Walt had just said something to Hank that under the surface he'd wanted to say for a long time, and whenever he stands up to a situation that he once would have flinched from, he feels pretty damn good about it. He was drunk, and it was like truth serum, Hiezenburg was the only person sitting there at that moment. Walter White was no where to be found.

user-pic

As we all know later he regretted it, but at the time that Jr was vomiting in the pool its my belief that there was no remorse. Walt lives a double life and its sometimes hard for him to keep his personalities in the right environments. The Heisenberg side of Walt is a controlling street thug whom likes to have it his way and no other way is acceptable. Where in the normal life of Walter White is a man that has always had to do what was told and wasn't allowed to have an opinion of his own. The whisky brought out the Heisenberg in Walt and its a side that's not to be reckoned with.

user-pic

Walt gave a smirk as to say "yeah, that's my boy and I'll tell him what he can or can't do especially at my own home". With Walt's new report from his doctors, he felt like nobody, not even his well intentioned Brother-in-law will have any control over his family. It's time for Walt yo get back into the family role now and I think that is what the whole scene was about.

default userpic

That was not Walt, that was Heisenberg on a deathwish tequila guzzling binge. heisenberg has no kids. It's a classic Jekyll/Hyde character switch. What i want to know is who got to clean the pool after the barfing session! Probably the same poor guy who squeegied Turtle's brains off the desert! I love this show.

user-pic

Having had a number of children myself. There may be a bit of a sinister side to it all. But face it we all know our kids are going to drink at some point or another.

He probably didn't really care for him vomiting in the pool, but he knew he was going to lose his lunch at some point. He knew Walt Jr. would take that 3rd drink. Because Jr. didn't know any better.

Walt Jr. needs to know better and all parents should relate to that. Hank has no children and yes he had good intentions, but he does follow along the bragging drinker lines in the things he says.

It's called "Tough Love" , but it's tough on BOTH sides.

It's kind of "Breaking Bad" to be good. He want to help make his son a man.

Jr. now has a understanding of what Ta-keel-ya will do and will know his limits. Well for awhile maybe:)

"Father Knows Best", never heard of a show called "Uncle Knows Best"

default userpic

Walt didn't seem to care his son is sick. I believe that Walt was more worried about showing up Hank. He wanted to prove something, what it was I am not totally sure.

default userpic

A drunk Walt reacted on his emotion of jealousy towards Hank because of how his soon looks up to Hank for being a "bad ass" DEA Agent. So at the moment, he basically tried to take away Walt Jr from Hank by offering him tequila and he was still too busy trying to step up to Hank to worry about Walt Jr.

user-pic

Walt let no small amount of both Heisenberg and Tequila take over and cause him to act like that. The old Walt would never have let jr. drink anything, let alone that much of it in that length of time. I also believe his regret about the situation later was genuine.

user-pic

What I interpreted, from Walt's reaction, to poor Walt Jr.s' misfortunate upchuck, was:

Possibly, after years, of having people misconstrue, Walts' passiveness, as being a "pansy"...
The sadistic Heisenberg, burst out of Walt, like the Alien Baby...without the blood & guts...but, it was just as dramatic & to the point.

The whole pool-side incidence & effects of the tequila, caused his bitterness & hurt, over past occurrences, to "vomit" out.

*Sigh* I'll prolly get a big, "NOT EVEN CLOSE!!" written in red ink, on my post...LMAO!!

default userpic

Walt seems to be after the kind of power that made people like Tuco happy. He can't feel satisfied with his old life as a high school teacher because he was so bored with it. Tuco's happiness came from destroying everyone around him, and Walt sees a bit of that it what he did to Walt Jr.

default userpic

i agree with mthornborough. This was all just a power struggle to Walt. He's slowly transforming into this hard nosed drug dealer and refuses to let Hank (or anyone else for that matter) step on his toes. The reason he smiled when Walt Jr vomited in the pool was because he won. He intended to get his son drunk and despite Hank's protests, Walt succeeded in doing so. He didn't care about the fact that Walt Jr was sick, he was just pleased to have the bottle of tequila back on the table and Hank to be put in his place.

default userpic

Dear Hank,

Stay. Off. My. (Patriarchal) Territory.

Love,

Walt

default userpic

Walt said it himself when he called Skylar 'that wasn't me yesterday'...he's starting to like and to take to the more hardline badass lifestyle that he has created in Hiesnberg. His lack of concern for his son's well being, and his stand-up/stand-offishness with Hank showed just that.

default userpic

I think Walt finally had enough of Hank's macho B.S. Walt has the balls that Hank wishes he has. Walt is becoming Heisenberg personified and is now throwing down the B.S. flag on whoever crosses him.

default userpic

Chi Chi

Well, it was obvious that Walt was upset that his cancer had gone under remission. His plans were'nt made with him living much longer. So after his good/bad news from the doctors and after making that speech at the friends and family get together, he probably felt anger that he had to live with the bold choices that had been made prior to his unforeseeable future. After fueling his anger with tequila, Walt more than likely threw caution to the wind and made poor decisions by forcing his son to drink along with him. Shortly after Walt Jr. puked in the pool, Walt Sr. might have felt shame after realizing everyone was watching. That is why he later apologizes to Walt Jr. while repairing the rot.

default userpic

He just doesn't care anymore.
He's tired of being goodie-goodie Walter White, and instead momentarily becomes 'Heisenberg'. His plans are becoming useless. He's angry at the Hank, the Permanant Alpha Male, stealing his role as Walt Jr's father. All in all, he's just f*cking angry.

default userpic

I think Walt Jr. was trying to gain acceptance from his father as a 'man' by drinking with him.

In turn, Walt was 'bonding' with his son.

Hank's interference interrupted that and so he got angry at Hank.

default userpic

He's smug and delights in relishing the fact that he was in control. His face says "screw all you weak, self rightious S.O.B's and yes that goes for you to........son". He loves the freedom of letting go of who he has been programed to be and he's getting high off of the power he's gaining. Had Jr. not puked his guts in the pool he would have sat there and knocked off the whole bottle with him just to make a point and in front of everybody. He's posturing himself as the man he wants to be. Good and bad are philosophical constructs to a man like him.....like me. When the ends justify the means and someone steps in your way you either take thier power or you destroy them utterly. He is disgusted that his son idolizes Hank so he takes that percieved power from Hank by punking him in front of Jr. He controlled him and ordered him as if he were his child and he did it so everybody saw and heard. Jr. puking in the pool becomes punishment in Walt's eyes for being soft. If he regretted it later or was just able to Subdue the Heisenberg in him enough to become the fatherly Walt again he loved that moment and that last shot of tequila was the sweetest drink of his entire life thus far........It's in his EYES. Brian C. plays this role to a T, definitly emmy material....Kudos, Man I FRIGGIN LOVE THIS SHOW!!!!!!!! It's the real deal.

user-pic

Walt's reaction of sitting down and finishing his drink with that smirk was actually him relishing some sort of accomplishment. His little goal was to show Walt Jr. by means of getting him loaded on Tequila, "Hey, your DEA agent Uncle Hank is a big dog, I am NOW a big dog, and If you're gonna hang here with us, you gotta show you're a big dog too. Drink it up." Walt actually was mad at Hank because he wanted Walt Jr. to experience this, and Hank was getting in the way, and there's nobody anymore that gets in HEISENBERG'S way! Afterwards, while Jr. was hurling his guts out in the pool, Walt/Heisenberg proclaimed in his mind "Congratulations son, you are now one step closer to becoming a big dog too". And that little lesson did wonders for Walt Jr.'s self esteem, as he showed he was as proud as a peacock the next day when he proclaimed "...I kept up with both of you..."

default userpic

Every father wants to be the hero in thier childs eye, and in this instance enough was enough. Walt simply was going to even the playing field with Hank by example. Yet by doing so his alter ego showed its true face. This face is one that is not known to anyone there so as Walt jr. pukes, Walt feels first a sense of accomplishment (there that will show ya) and then his mind sets into the reallity of who am I; Walt/Hisenberg He's loosing the ability to seperate the two personas and so hes left with the tought of what did i just do and why

default userpic

walts reaction to his son vomiting in the pool was that he was too consumed with feeling he had one up'ed hank..he had his breaking point of walt jr. always looking up to and admiring hank and how hank embellished all his "war" stories so walt then wanted to show hank and walt jr. he had a different cooler side as well.i think he was oblivious to walt jr puking as he cared much more that he had gotten the better of hank...

default userpic

Let's go in another direction with this. Walt Sr. is sorely convicted in his spirit for the life that he has chosen, a life of lies, of cheating, of crime, and ultimately, of murder.

Walt Jr. symbolizes Walt Sr. BEFORE Sr. lost his soul. The tequila drunkenness (even under age) of Jr. is a microcosmic metaphor for the macro-cosmic lawlessness of Walt Sr.'s new chosen walk of depravity & evil.

Deep in the recesses of his spirit, Walt Sr. wants to repent of this season of wickedness, and so Walt Sr. wanted to see Walt Jr. (himself before his loss of innocence) take in so much hedonistic poison (the alcohol representing moral decay) that he sicken himself of it (crime), and vomit it out, only to be cleansed in the pool of righteousness.

Moreover, Walt Sr. was pleased that the old Walt (symbolized by Jr.) could relieve himself from this life of darkness; but only through a season of overindulgence, and the resultant sickness, would Walt Sr. have a chance of future deliverance.

default userpic

This episode is the real beginning of a personality change in Walt Sr. I think he's beginning to see that playing by the rules got him nowhere and he's restructuring his value system. The alcohol allowed us to see the darkest most cruel side of a man who previously only showed his moral side (even when whacking someone over a deal). Walt's a survivalist now. If he can teach his son that- maybe Walt Jr will have a better life than senior did.

user-pic

I have to agree that we don't really know what Walt's reaction was because in that moment Heisenberg not Walt was running the show.

Of course that raises another question in my beginning to wonder if Heisenberg IS the real Walt?

Is Walt a good man who went broke bad because of bad circumstances OR was he always a not so good man who'd been playing the good guy because of *good* circumstance.

user-pic

It was like, He has to be a man someday. Let him drink with the rest of us. That was Heisenberg and Walt. Hank made it worse by butting in, taking control of the family. Thats Walts job.

default userpic

It was Heisenberg. Walt did not want or ask for a party, made a face when Skylar thanked Elliot and Gretchen, and then Hank sits there lapping up his son's attention - at HIS party. He did was Heisenberg would do, take control of the situation.
No feelings, no fear, just taking back control, whatever the consequences......
You saw what happened on his last trip to the hardware store.
Walt has felt so good being Heisenberg, why would he give it up and go back to letting others dictate to him?
Best show E-VER!!

default userpic

I think that Walt Sr. resents the fact that Hank has been getting more respect from his family than he has. Hank has stepped into Walt's territory and become the role model for Walt Jr. Even Walt's wife has been showing more respect to Hank than to Walt. Walt has had to pull off some crazy, but very creative, stunts to be able to pay for his treatments and make sure his family is taken care of, and it has been a difficult path for him.

Add to that the fact that Walt was just somewhat insulted by his wife at the party--due to his need to hide his income source--when she gave the credit for raising the money for his treatments to someone else. Walt has his pride, and that's why he wouldn't let anyone else foot the bill to begin with.

Not only that, but Hank has been unwittingly making Walt's already overly stressed life even more a nightmare in the course of doing his job for the DEA. Of course, Hank doesn't have a clue that Walt is Heisenberg, but he's gotten too close to Heisenberg too many times for Walt's comfort. Hank enjoys the luxury of being able to brag to Walt Jr. about his daring episodes, while Walt Sr. can't share any of his tales, except the ones that make him look even more like a loser in the eyes of his family, for example: being found naked in the grocery store.

What it boils down to is that Walt Sr. is trying to find some release for his angst--for the cross he must bear alone--in a situation where he looks like a helpless loser (who has to depend on the generosity of others) and like a nut (who has memory lapses and lost time episodes).

We all know that Walt Sr. has shown more boldness and resourcefulness than any character in the show. I think if Walt Jr. had a chance to understand what his father has done for him and his mother, he'd have profound respect--but we all know he's too young to understand.

Walt Sr. struggles just to maintain some respect from his family, because of his secret life, while Hank, who ran like a sissy when he saw the head mounted on the tortoise, gets to look like a big, brave hero.

I think that Walt's judgment may have been impaired by angst, jealousy, frustration, and maybe a bit too much alcohol, but he was really lashing out at Hank's power over his family and intrusion into their lives. Hank has really caused Walt a great deal of stress.

default userpic

I think that Walt Jr. has always kinda looked up to Hank cause he's sorta a badass and doesn't treat Jr. like he's a kid. Hank always picks on Walt cause he thinks he's a wussy and never does anything bad, so I think he was proving to both of them that he can be as bad as Hank. Maybe he was trying to get Jr.'s approval by letting him drink as much as he wanted

default userpic

My first comments didn't really answer the question, so here's another shot at it: I must admit that it was rather disturbing to me that Walt could only display a smug satisfaction (at feeling victorious in a battle over Hank having too much control and influence over his family) while Walt Jr. vomited. I think Walt was showing his son that there are many things he doesn't yet understand about being a man, alcohol usage being only one of them.

Hank is a drinker, not saying he's a drunk, but Walt Jr. looks up to him, (and, if I recall correctly, Junior did try to buy some beer recently). I think that Walt Jr. vomiting was symbolically cathartic to Walt Sr. that we are sick of Hank having undue influence and control--sick enough to vomit.

Sometimes when we have a bellyful all we can do is release it in the same way that Walt Sr. just released his dissatisfaction with Hank. There are times when we can't lay it all on the line, as Walt certainly can't, but we can say we're sick of it--even if we can't go into details. Actions speak louder than words. I think Walt was saying to Hank, in non-verbal grunts, "We're sick of it; back off."

I think that based on Hank's reaction--he got the message.

It's unfortunate that Walt Jr. got sick, but does anyone doubt that he would have eventually drank enough to get sick on his own sometime in the near future? I think his comment that he 'kept up' the next day shows the inevitability of that.

Walt was satisfied with himself and his newly acquired assertiveness skills in his victory over Hank's meddling control in his household, and this had been a showdown.

Walt Jr. wants to be a man, and I think that Walt Sr. is well equipped to be his role model, he's only been doing what he felt he had no choice but to do. I think that usually Hank makes a bigger display of drinking alcoholic beverages and full-blown bragging than Walt Sr. would ever even consider acceptable. I think Walt Sr. was giving both of those false displays of manhood a swift kick in the seat of the pants with his poolside performance.

Sometimes looking up to the wrong people can make you sick, and you may not realize it until your stomach becomes unsettled. Sometimes getting what you think you want can make you sick too, as in the case of Walt Jr. getting to drink as much as he wanted to. Sometimes you can fill yourself up with garbage because you are not wise enough to make good choices.

To the perception of Walt Sr., Walt Jr. has recently been getting too much of Hank for his own good. Sometimes it's best to disgorge and start out fresh. I think that if we watch Walt Sr., we'll find out that he is not a Dr. Jekyll, he's just a man doing what he fully believes he needs to do. While his amoral state may be hard for us to reconcile, I believe the quality of his character is not lacking.

default userpic

I think this scene illustrated how Walt's conscience and views on right and wrong have shifted. He feels empowered and emboldened through his success in the meth business and was displaying a side of his psyche that has been suppressed throughout his life. we caught glimpses of this throughout earlier episodes but this was his first full blown demonstration of his darker side that has been unleashed.

default userpic

Hmm

i think he want to show that he's in charge and his house his rules.

default userpic

Walt was feeling a bit smug that he caused Walt, Jr. to vomit, but also exhibiting a little bit of parental "I told you so."

default userpic

Walt clearly relished his involvment in Walt junior's coming of manhood.
Tequila is the best.

default userpic

Walt was hungover, and he didn’t want his son living a hangover. His life of drinking in the fast money and power, being number one in his deadly game, has caught up to him and now he is feeling the hangover from it. His friends are distancing themselves, his wife and kids are far removed from him. And He no longer hasthe out of dying before the worst of it hits. So he is forced to feel it.

He sees his son being caught up, dragged in, by the easy and seductive life of excitement that the idiotic Hank spews forth, and he wants to show His son the consequences. Wants to have him feel the consequences that come from the life that both he and hank live. When he sees his son puking.. feeling the misery that comes from being caught up in the immediate enjoyment of exciting easy to aquire pleasure.. he celebrates. He taught him(so he thinks). He teaches that “the easy way is not the best way”. That he must use his intelligence and steer clear from what seems the best path at the moment.
Unfortunately it is short lived as he hurts when his sone says “but I kept up with you and Hank didn’t I?”.

user-pic

I think Walt should have taken the handle side of the pool skimmer and lifted Jr up off the concrete by the back side of his jeans.

"YOU clean it up!"

default userpic

I think that Walt is tired of hearing his brother-in-law constantly talk about what a bad ass he is while bragging about his work and acts of "heroism" and seeing his son look up to Hank like he's someone to be admired. By serving his son the tequila he is both trying to gain some admiration from his son and show Hank that he is not the push over everyone treats him as. I do think it's his heisenburg side that is surfacing in this scene. It's almost as if he created this other persona to overcompensate for the weak willed family man he had become and as it is helping him become stronger it is also dangerously close to causing detriment to his family life.

default userpic

Are we allowed to take multiple cracks at this? If so, my second guess would be that Walt's thinking "Who's the pussy now, huh Junior?"

user-pic

Walt was drunk. He loves his son and in his intoxicated state thought of this as a rite of passage. He was incorrect, of course, but not necessarily wrong. It was his house, his bottle, his rules. It may be illegal, but as any parent will tell you, you learn as you go. You aren't going to get it right all of the time. He has been a wreck and who knows, if he can ever redeem himself it might be through his "big man". Lord, I hope so.

user-pic

He thought, "Heh, pussy."

default userpic

His reaction was justified. He felt he wasn't being respected as a father, he wasn't intentionally trying to make him puke, but he felt justified in the fact that he made that decision to let him drink and it was his fault. Not Hank's

user-pic

Heisenberg just wanted his son to respect him and only him.

this also leads up to the finale in last week's episode.

user-pic

Walt was hiding his shame. Like he said in the episode, he wasn't even himself. He was Heisenberg, the unfeeling criminal. When he saw his son puke, he slowly morphed back into Walt, and all he was left with was his pathetic shamefulness.

user-pic

Walt was jealous of his son's admiration of his Uncle Hank. Hank is a good ol' boy and Walt sees himself as more of a mild-mannered nerd. He's starting to like the high his Heisenburgh persona gives him. He likes being the man. He wanted to look cool to his son and when Hank tried to intervene Walt didn't want to back down. His house, his son, his rules. He enjoyed letting that side of his family but later regretted it. He saw that he actually made his son sick and felt bad about it. I think walt was a little drunk....with alcohol and power.

default userpic

Well telling from the little smirk on Walt's face... I could tell he enjoyed it. At first I thought, hey that's a little cruel! ..but then I realised what he was doing. i think he wants his son to be tough and strong like how Walt's learned to be. He took it as the right time to get his son somewhat drunk and sick. Good time to learn the les son of how much to drink how quickly haha! Safe at home.

user-pic

He made Flynn drink because he was tired of sitting by hiding his secret and letting Hank brag. He also wanted to bond with his son over a drink like many fathers do. His frustrations got the better of him and he took it too far, and felt terrible afterward. This shows Hank has lost a lot of his morality but still feels many normal emotions, like responsibility and regret for not being a good father when he fails.

default userpic

........ummmmmmm, obvious. walt, at that particular moment, as his son puked in the family pool (which is so "glamourously" portrayed at the beginning of each episode) didn't give a rat's ass.

default userpic

Walt, being the man he has become, stands (or sits rather) behind the decision (or the "choice") he has made. By giving his son the "celebration shots", not only did Walt want the respect of his son, but everyone else...being the man...err, KINGPIN, he has become!!! Walt Jr.'s puking in the pool wasn't necessarily what he had in mind but it was the outcome of his own choices...which made it great!!!

user-pic

I thought he looked purely and simply satisfied...He definitely is starting to show that other side of him coming out, maybe even enjoying it a little...

default userpic

Walt's house, Walt's Bottle..., Hank was bragging about turtle, and Walt wasn't liking it, Walt saw the drink as bonding with his son

default userpic

Walt let Heisenberg "come out" in his reaction, or lack of it, to Walt Jr.'s vomiting. He was thinking, "I'm doing all this (the meth dealing) for you and your mother, and soon-to-be sibling, and taking risks you can't imagine. Now you must experience a little of what it means to be an adult, even if you aren't ready for it, but will have to be after I'm gone."

default userpic

I think it was a little Heisenburg coming out to play and he felt a little accomplished at the outcome.

default userpic

Walt is channeling the same demons that Tuco had taken to the grave. One top dog has replaced another, and the 'rush' of breaking bad has taken on a new form in a once quiet and generous chemistry teacher.

default userpic

i feel that walt sr felt satisfied that he was the one that was doing something for his son and not hank, even if it was not a nice thing, sort of a powetrip i guess. never before have i got into a series so intently, ive lived half my adult life the past part in this situation and the web of lies it creates is dead on in this series, please dont stop making more episodes, two thumbs up to the writers and actors, very believable stuff!!

a bb fan since i firsat watched it!

user-pic

Walt was so wrapped up in his "Why me?" self-pity caca that he made a bad choice while intoxicated. By a round of applause how many of you have made some bad decisions while drunk? ...Yeah, that's what I thought... Okay, give the guy a break. His Walt/Heisenberg, Jekyll/Hyde persona is coming into play here, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it wasn't just a bad parenting decision. I have kids and I believe that's all it was. Give him a pass on this one -- a slap on the wrist on move on. He loves his son, whom may be his only redemption.

user-pic

I think its a control mind game. He wants to feel on the same level or above his Brother in law. Sitting back down and savoring his drink and his win at getting his underage son totally wasted in front of the head of the local DEA department and not backing down to his moral righteousness. Walt has had a taste of evil. The darkness runs through his veins eating away all that is decent and right. It spreads almost as violent as cancer. The high is one no drug could produce. He lives as a simple man no more.

default userpic

i think its obvious that walt sr did not watch jr puke into the pool or force alcohol on him, i think heisenberg is becoming a more persistent feature in walt sr's personality. and that even if walt quits the meth buisness now heisenberg will stick with him.

default userpic

Walt's reaction to his son vomiting in the pool?

Walter White is viewing his son and watching him grow up.
The passage of one generation to the next. Feeling sad at the loss of his son's youth, yet excited at the thought of his son growing up.

default userpic

I think walt was mad his son piled. It gave hank a reason to avoid the confrontation with walt, and I think that walt wasn't going to back down and he lost his chance to stand-up to hank. Jaycfunnyman

default userpic

Walt's reaction was "This Is My Son"..... I think Walt is becoming a different person. The drug game, whether you do drugs or not, will change you!!!!! I also believe Walt is not happy with his remission..
Most of all, I BELIEVE HE WAS TIRED OF HEARING HANK'S BULLSHIT!!!!

default userpic

Plain And Simple...Walt thought, that will teach him to drink again!Cuz its MY HOUSE MY BOTTLE MY RULES DONT LIKE IT GET THE *%^@ OUT!!!....Dont knowwhy you people had to go drag the question onbout your experiances with Tequilla,Your Familys They didn't ask about that did they!!!!!....You Ass Kissers I will Send Youa pick of me in my new BREAKIN BAD HOODIE...

Walt was Heisenberg enough said

default userpic

Experience is the best teacher...lesson delivered.
Walt 'claimed his turf' at his own home...mission accomplished.
Respect is gained through action...'nuff said.
Walt FEELS like a man again...even his family pays HIS price now.

default userpic

Walt was re-enacting the interior conflict he faces: He's been forced to play in the big leagues, so he wants to make someone else punch above their weight, too.

default userpic

I think Walt was just miserable and wanted to get a rise out of getting his son drunk. You know like misery enjoys company. Either po up or show up.

default userpic

I think Walt was just miserable and wanted to get a rise out of getting his son drunk. You know like misery enjoys company. Either po up or show up.

default userpic

Seemed like a straight up power struggle for respect from his son. Walt Jr saw Hank as "the man" and Walt Sr/Heisenberg decides to go for alpha dog role. Walt Jr vomiting just stopped the stand-off, but Walt Sr had won by not backing down. Walt Sr is so caught up in the battle he doesn't feel normal fatherly emotions at that instant.

default userpic

Walt was treating his son like he was "normal" by allowing him to drink with him and his brother-in-law. He was, however, reminded of his son's inadequacies when he vomited. Walt was embarassed by it and took his anger out on his brother-in-law, because even if his son is not "normal" he does love him.

default userpic

He was pissed because he knew his wife would have to clean the pool

default userpic

He was pissed that his son would waste good tequila like that.

default userpic

Sad he couldn't see his son man up and be atough guy like him.

default userpic

Mad he couldn't get drunk with his son and tell him how tough his drug making dad is.

default userpic

Glad he was able to get out of a fight with hank .

default userpic

Disgusted that he could smell the puke.

default userpic

Happy that people were now wanting to leave the party.

default userpic

Angry that he had just wasted three good shots of cheap tequila that were now in his pool.

default userpic

Angry that he had just wasted three good shots of cheap tequila that were now in his pool.

default userpic

Bored because he didn't have anyone left to pick a fight with to show how tough he thinks he is.

default userpic

He felt stupid because he knew his son should have had dome food in his stomach before drinking anything.

default userpic

Glad to see his son wasn't going to be hung over the next day.

default userpic

outraged that things didn't go his way and that it made hank look like the better father to walt he.

default userpic

Inraged that he wasn't able to let hank see how tough he had gotten. ( if I get sweatshirt, it will be put on eBay and money given to help people in recovery)

default userpic

He felt poor because he wanted to give his son some better tequila that won't rot his gut.

default userpic

He was mad that skyler had to step in and help out his son.

default userpic

He felt good to know that hankvreally cared for the well-being of his son.

default userpic

He was happy because he knew now hank would spend less time around his house and make it harder for hank to find out what was going on.

default userpic

He was worried that now hank might look a little harder into all his wired behavior now.

default userpic

He was pissed that his son ruined his new skater jeans and now he was going to have to take him shopping again .

default userpic

He was sad he didn't get a dog that could help clean the mess up.

default userpic

He was baffled at everyone looking worried because sticks and stones may break his bones but puke won't hurt anybody.

default userpic

He was contiplating turning hank into the a.t.f. For allow him to give his son the first shot of tequila.

default userpic

He was perplexed on whether or not he should teach his son how to cook great meth now that he has his first hair on his chest.

default userpic

He was upset because if his son had such a weak stomach how could he ever tell him about all thevterrible things he had done for his family .

default userpic

He was mad because he had just remembered that he forgot to put more chlorine in the pool, and now hecwould have to drain the water out .

default userpic

Scared because he remembered that he put the rest of his mercury fulminate in the chlorine tablet box and thought skyler might blow herself up trying to add more chlorine to the pool.

default userpic

He was releived that people now saw him for whom he truly was.

default userpic

He was scared to know that people might actually find out who he truly is.

default userpic

He felt ready, ready to show his family what heizenburgh was all about

default userpic

He was happy that marie was there and could see he was tougher than hank.

default userpic

He was sickened because hank had a bad case of halitosis.

default userpic

He was scared because he now knew he had gone to far to turn back now.

default userpic

He was worried because he forgot that he left his plate of churros in the kitchen and he didn't want anyone to eat them.

default userpic

He was glad because he knew people would leave and he wouldn't have to eat the juevos rancheros that marie made.

default userpic

He was mad because he noticed that up close, hank looks better than him with a bald head.

default userpic

He was giddy with emotion knowing that was smarter than hank, and after all the evidence hank had , and after all his weird behavior hank was still blowing hot air about catching heizenburgh.

default userpic

He was laughing inside because he had just gotten away with breakin bad in front of hank ( bad gas that is).

default userpic

He was astonished that hank didn't freak out when the conflict occured.

default userpic

He was excited that he could stand up to hank and get hank to walk away.

default userpic

He felt jipped that he couldn't mix it up with hank and set him strait on who the better man is.

default userpic

He was proud that he could show his son that he was more than everyone thought he was.

default userpic

He was embarassed that people knew he bought tequila by the liter.

default userpic

He was angry that he didn't get some tequila with a worm in the bottle , because he wanted to see if hank would eat the worm.

default userpic

He was sad to know that his sexy boss who he always liked would now know that not only is he a bad father, but that he can't control his temper .

default userpic

He felt good because skyler might kick him out if the house , and give him the chance to pursue carmen , his fantasy woman.

default userpic

He was angry because he now knew he wouldn't be able to talk hank and marie into giving him money for his piramid scheme he was working on.

default userpic

He was upset because he knew he would have to fill the pool back up that rust colored water.

default userpic

He was puzzled on how hank could ever get the best of RICO after seeing hank break-down.

default userpic

( tuco. Not RICO). Walt was wondering if his wife would get sick from chemical fumes given off when she cleaned the pool.

default userpic

He was ashtonished to see that hank looked like he had man boobies up close.

default userpic

He was curious about why so many people he really didn't know were at his party.

default userpic

He was furious that people at his party would now think he couldn't pay for his treatment.

default userpic

He wanted to show the people at his party that he could take care of himself and his family without anyone helping.

default userpic

he`would be like......thank`s god he vomiting in the pool ..and then grab another drink.......he would be just indiferent to the situation

default userpic

He was glad to know that even if he's acting odd, hank will stilltry to help him work things out.

default userpic

He was curious because he didn't think his son had eaton enough to puke that much.

default userpic

He was frustrated because he wanted to leave but he couldn't because marie had parked her blue beetle behind his car .

default userpic

He was grossed out because the sound of the puke hitting the water reminded him of when he flushed emeilo and crazy-8 down Jesse's toilet.

default userpic

He was in pain because he had gotten a nasty sunburn on top of his head .

default userpic

He was in pain because he had gotten a nasty sunburn on top of his head .

default userpic

he was worried that if his sunburnt started to peel, people would think he's the first bald guy to have dandruff, this making heizenburgh less of the drug lord killer walt was trying to come across as.

default userpic

he was worried that if his sunburnt started to peel, people would think he's the first bald guy to have dandruff, this making heizenburgh less of the drug lord killer walt was trying to come across as.

default userpic

He was angry because he just noticed that most of the people at the party weren't really there to support him, but only came for the free food and drinks.

default userpic

He was thinking about telling hank he had the ways and means to get rid of him for good.

default userpic

Walt knew now that hank would be looking for any reason to get back at him, and could possibly follow him and discover the truth, and this worried walt .

default userpic

He was embarassed because he would now have to apologize to hank, and he didn't think that hank deserved one .

default userpic

He was pondering rather or not he should burst hanks bubble, and tell him the truth about what really happened the night hank went to the " ivory swallow's" bar.

default userpic

JayC you realize that in three hours you could've probably knitted your own Breaking Bad hoodie from scratch.

default userpic

He was thinking about embarassing hank by telling everyone at the party all the weird sex things that marie had told skyler about hank and herself.

default userpic

Walt was pondering if he should tell hank that he has bigger problems with his clepto wife than walt hascwith his family, and that hank should mind his own business.

default userpic

He was mad because walt jr puked before walt could tell him that he purposly got naked in front of the doughnuts that hank and all his co-workers buy.

default userpic

Walt was pondering how he could possibly find a way to get even with the kid who put his missing flyer on his car , and somehow make hank look like the one who beat the kid up.

default userpic

Walt was worried that his son could turn out to be an alcoholic.

default userpic

walt was wondering if his son had ever even drank before.

default userpic

Actually I think that Walt was trying to share a little of the dark side that has so invigorated him with his son by having him drink with his father and Hank. Walt had experience a major awakening due to the combination of a death sentence from cancer and "breaking bad" and becoming a drug producer/dealer. The irony is that the good prognosis being celebrated at the party that night meant then end of his time on the dark side (at least he told Jesse he was done), and therefore the end of Heisenberg, the dark side of Walt who had really dug his nails into life in a way that Walt never did. Walt at his party was just starting to absorb this, with the help of tequila, and his brother in law, who could continue to exist in the dangerous world of drugs and guns, was really annoying Walt, more than usual. I think he encouraged his son to drink tequila with them to win him over to him as the father, and take away the cool factor from Hank. I think he wanted his son to experience a bit of the danger and wild side to being "bad." By the time his son vomited into the pool, though, I think he had moved on to not being a parent anymore, but being the dangerous Heisenberg side of himself, tangling with the battle-tested DEA agent Hank. He didn't care about his son at that moment, because he had just used him as a pawn to challenge Hank, and to claim his son as his territory which Hank has no purview over. It wasn't until Walt could come down from this adrenaline rush and the effects of alcohol, that he could have compassion for his son, and the fact that his poor son felt responsible for what had happened.

default userpic

After Walt finds out that he has a little more time to live, a bit of Heisenberg came out of him because he sees Walt Jr looking up to Hank and he wanted to become the father-figure that he hasn't been since he discovered he was dying of cancer and broke bad.

default userpic

Walt wanted hank to get out of his face because he had to sneeze, and didn't want to spray hank .

default userpic

Walt was mad because he knew he had to go throw up and he wanted the bottle so he could drink more after he hurled.

default userpic

Walt was quickly trying to settle things with hank and wanted to leave, but he couldn't because his son had gotten sick from his neglagence.

default userpic

Walt was mad because he had just realized that he had already put some louis trey in his sons cup eariler, and just realized he threw out the most expensive liquid in the state.

default userpic

Walt was upset when his son puke because he wanted him to know what it's like to try to drive under the influence.

default userpic

Walt was angry because he wanted to get drunk with his son and take him out to find whoever put the flyer on his car, and teach jr how to be a tough guy.

default userpic

Walt was furious with hank because he almost died and after what hecwent through, he deserved the right to bond with his son any way he saw fit.

default userpic

Walt was pondering sticking some mercury fulminate in hanks mouth and slapping him in the mouth .

default userpic

Walt was upset that he would have to clean the pool because he left his swim trunks in the r.v. and would now have to get in the pool in his tighty-whities.

default userpic

Walt was curious about something that he saw stuck in hanks front teeth.

default userpic

Walt was curious about something that he saw stuck in hanks front teeth.

default userpic

Walt was sick because the smell of the puke hit him. And he was about to burst.

default userpic

Walt was shocked when he realized he had forgotten to meet Jesse at taco cabesa.

default userpic

Walt understood why hank took the bottle , but was mad because hank has no right to tell him what to do in his own house with his own son.

default userpic

Walt was mad because hank didn't bring any Cuban cigars to smoke when they were drinking.

default userpic

Walt was in a hurry because he just realized it was 4:30, and time for judge judy.

default userpic

half satisified that Walt Jr can't hold his liquor, half upset that Hank became the surrogate father

default userpic

Walt was mad when hank walked away because he wanted to try out the fighting move badger taught him, the helicopter!

default userpic

Walt was mad when hank walked away because he wanted to try out the fighting move badger taught him, the helicopter!

default userpic

Walt was worried because the only clean towel he had for his son was one he used to clean up the melted body, and though someone might notice the strange smell and funny color.

default userpic

Walt was in a state of shock when he realized that hank accendently used his meth instead of salt on the margaritas, and that half the party would soon be higher than a kite.

default userpic

Walt was worried that gretchen would stop by and reveal his secrets .

default userpic

Walt was angry that he couldn't reveal that he had cured his cancer from meth fumes.

default userpic

Walt was mad his son had been able to walk to the pool but needed crutches for everything else, he thought he was being scammed by his own son...

default userpic

Walt was waiting for hank to make the first move, so he could then throw him into the puke-filled pool.

default userpic

Walt was scared that hank might try to win his son over by being the fun caring uncle thus, removing any bond between walt and his son.

default userpic

Walt was anxious because he knew he would puke next because, beer before liquor he'll never be sicker.

default userpic

Walt was snickering behind his breath on how dumb hank is, not being able to put 2&2 together, and being totally obvlious to all the signs that point to walt.

default userpic

Not that I am a psychologist or anything but I think Walt's real reaction was based on his inability to deal with the multiple stressors in his life (his cancer, Skyler's pregnancy this late in his life, his career; his kid's MS, Pinkman's unreliability, Hank being a DEA agent -- how inconvenient -- his shaky situation with the school). So he took it out on an easy target: his physically shackled son.

I also think he was saying, in a weird way: "Hey, I'm getting better, why can't you?!?" That's pretty messed up but Walt's a messed up type of guy. Why else would you start cooking meth as an amped up dope-fueled IRA?

Like other commentors I also applauded the appearance of Giancarlo Esposito's appearance as the mysterious "Gus." As soon as I recognized him, I said, "Wait. He's gotta have a major role. Otherwise, what are they paying him for."

Now let's talk about Jane. Jane, Jane, Jane. Tsk, tsk, tsk. And I thought you were going to be the one to lead poor, confused Pinkman away from all of this.

Tsk, tsk, tsk. Krysten Ritter is playing the heck out of that role. Yes she is.

default userpic

walt sr. acted indifferently. i believe he intended to get walt jr. drunk to the point he regrets ever drinking again. the tension between walt sr. and hank is due to walt jr. calling him up first when getting caught asking the office to buy alcohol for him in front of the convenient store. i believe walt sr. is jealous that his son looks up to his uncle as much as he does and not to his father instead. well that's what i interpreted from the scene.

default userpic

I can sum this up quickly:
first let me say: "HEISENBERG not Walt"
second "THIS IS MY SON"
third and final; THE DRUG GAME, WHETHER YOU DO OR DONT DO DRUGS, IF YOUR IN THE GAME, YOU WILL CHANGE!! METH WILL DESTORY YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

default userpic

I really didn't get his reaction to be honest when I watched it. It didn't seem to fit.
I just really want a hoodie!
But.....I could see him going overboard with getting Walt Jr., drunk because...well because...he is angry at himself and at the world, and we always take out our anger on the ones we love the most. So perhaps that was an extension of his anger...he just wanted to see his son suffer, like he is.

I also thought he might be thinking his son needed to toughen up. To be a man! Like Walt thinks he is now. And since Walt. Jr., couldn't handle his liquor it just proved his point.

....I wish I could watch the scene with Walt's apology to his son the next day again....Maybe I could come up with a better answer?

default userpic

Walt was sad he didn't get a chance to introduce hank to his best friend mr. Heisenburgh.

user-pic

3 shots, no worm & vomit, what kind of a wuss am I raising!

user-pic

This is easy - it's the tragic flaw of his character coming to the surface very obviously. It is the arc of the character, a turning point where Walt is on the precipice of truly "Breaking Bad."

user-pic

it was scary but walt's drug dealing side was coming out was my first impression then i was hoping that walt's father side was showing and making an example of alcohol; i had a similar experience with pop and to this day dislike the fizz and don't drink the stuff

default userpic

I don't think Walt had much going on upstairs at that moment because he was real drunk. He admits regret later to his son, although I don't believe that was entirely genuine. The conflict between his two sides is making it harder for him to deal with a lot of situations, because he said nothing when his son mentioned that he kept up. One side of him wants to be proud or something, another wants to maintain a legal view of drinking. At the moment when Walt Jr throws up, though, he's all Heisenberg.

default userpic

I agree walt is walking a slippery slope.

default userpic

Walt was pissed because he knew he was going to have to ask skyler to crawl down out of his ass again.

user-pic

I think Walt has a little smirk on his face, I think he felt like he'd "won" in some way by getting his son drunk. He won over Hank.

user-pic

Walt looked as if he were quite satisfied with the results.

user-pic

Walt looked as if he were quite satisfied with the results.

Walt looked as if he were quite satisfied with the results.

user-pic

Walt appeared to be quite satisfied with the results.

default userpic

It is pretty simple in my mind what was to be interpreted from Walt's look - it was welcome to my world. Welcome to a life that isnt as sugar coated and simple and jolly as your uncle has been making things seem to be for you.

After his life has taken an extremely rough turn and he has had to live with the pain of cancer, becoming distanced from his family and his life, and the pain he has taken on from being a meth maker and dealer... it was almost his way of introducing his son to the hardships that life may possibly one day bring him.

This kind of goes along with how at the end of the Episode Walt confronts the other meth heads and tells them to stay off of his turf. This is a change in Walt that I believe the writers are trying to show us has happened inside Walt due to his past experiences in the last two years. He has become a different man, a man who used to be a quiet Chem teacher who had never been in a rough situation, to becoming a jagged on the edge guy.

user-pic

Walt was having a schizophrenic moment then and felt that his son could use a little toughening up. He was pissed about Hank being there and figuring that he was going to be there long after he was gone. This started to anger him as he has no control over future events and situations (due to his condition) and he wanted to control this moment. His was a combination of jealousy (of Hank's relationship with Walter Jr.), anger (at his own mortality), power (that he craves more and more of) and he also had one too many shots of Tequila!

default userpic

I think that walt was pondering whether or not he should continue on with his alter ego, or should he stop and try to pick up all the pieces and try to save what relationship he had left with his family .

default userpic

Walt is a contemporary Howard Beale - "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore."

default userpic

Walt had a smug look of, "I win." on his face. He had declared a turf war with Hank, the turf being his son. Walt was going to teach his son about drinking and that drinking too much would lead to unpleasantness. When Hank interfered and Walt Jr. looked to Hank for direction, Walt declared war. By giving Jr. more tequila and finally enough to make him puke, Walt won, he made his point, he was controlling his son, and he was lording over Hank.

default userpic

I think Walt finally felt like he'd dominated somebody in his domestic life - He'd dominated Hank AND his son for admiring Hank. For once he wasn't the one who was submissive and vomiting, and he took some pleasure in that.

default userpic

Walt is having trouble dealing with the possibility that he may not be dying quite as soon as he had planned. He's given up all of his morals and beliefs in order to provide a stable future for his family after his Cancer takes him. Finding out there's hope for him after all has brought about feelings that Walt had let die so long ago when he discovered his own fate. Walt has ignored all of the subconscious thoughts and feelings of guilt, remorse, right and wrong. Living with such reckless abandon, lying to his wife, all of this has become very real for Walt now that there's hope that he may survive much longer than what his new lifestyle was to allow.

default userpic

I think that walt was podering how his life would be affected if he kept acting like heizenburgh, so he decided to keep his true inner feelings under wraps, and decided to settle down and apologize to everyone the next day.

user-pic

jaycking talk about unfair for other posters you posted like 100 times :{

and walt? i dont think so Heisenberg took over this scene

default userpic

Unfair I posted 100 times? let's see you try to think of 100 different interpretations of walts mind. It was a bet, if I do win I'll auction it off and give the money to a drug rehab related charity.

default userpic

The tequila takes Walt to Heisenberg territory. There, if you're man enough to drink the stuff, you're man enough to puke in the pool.

default userpic

walt was thinking to himself, that there might not be a worm in the bottom of the tequila bottle, but there definitely was one there trying to tell him how to raise his son.

default userpic

Firstly, Walt didn't regret one bit giving his alcohol to Jr. The empowerment of being the infamous Heisenberg made him resent Hank even more. Further embittered by the condescending treatment at the hand of his brother in law during his sickness, Walt felt strong in his stand against what he perceived as unwanted intrusion into his private family matters.

default userpic

Walt was pondering why hank never fingerprinted the machine gun that Tuco had, because walt just realized that he was one of the last people to touch it.

default userpic

Walt has had to stare death in the face from the start. With this knowledge he had no fear breaking the law to leave his family provided for after his departure. Now he is facing the potential he wont die and realizes he is truly beginning to like the thrill and profit of his new found business which has created immense confusion at the party as to what his future now holds which was the catalyst for him drinking heavily which clouded his judgement concerning his son.

default userpic

I think he was saddened and appalled by how he acted, getting his son drunk... but at the same time thrilled that he took a stand and stood up for himself against blabber-mouth Walt, something he had never done prior in his life. He knew he had top draw a line in the sand and take a stand because HE was his father and he alone has the say, right or wrong...

default userpic

He knew he had top draw a line in the sand and take a stand because HE was his father and he alone has the say, right or wrong...

default userpic

I think Walt was feeling that he wanted to be in control of his son and house. Everything else that he and Jessie are doing with the "cooking" is out of control and it isn't going the way he wants it to.
He has to be constantly afraid of being caught by his brother in law and for once he wanted to do something that no one could do anything about. I think he realized he went too far when he saw his son puke in the pool but he felt vindicated that he was able to get away with what he did and open the door for him to take on new roles with the drugs, the thugs, and the streets.

default userpic

Walt's reaction had multiple dynamics which could be summarized by one word: DISGUST:
a) Disgust with Himself: As we get older, we all settle in to a persona that we feel is an acceptable way to live life, e.g., having a job, a family, being responsible, etc. This 'order' brings us a sense of safety & security. But when Walt decided to give up all that security after learning he was about to die, he ventured into a world of anxiety & uncertainty. Despite doing this in a calculated way, fueled by love for his wife & child, now, in this episode, he has found out that all the dangerous risks he took were all for nought --he may recover after all. He feels like a fool & is filled with rage & disgust with himself.
b) Disgust with the Hand Life has dealt him: Walt's not contemplating all this by sitting on a parkbench in the woods, where he could gather his thoughts & recover, eventually realizing that his horrible risky actions were committed out of love for his family. No, he's being forced to 'pretend' that he's 'happy', in the midst of several of his smiling family & friends. This angst is too much to bear...So he drinks himself silly, hoping for some relief. Unfortunately in this scene, alcohol is instead taking 'the lid off'' his feelings, & his disgust is pouring out. The fact that Walt Jr looks to Hank for fatherly permission just rubs in the pain from realizing what a poor model he's been for his son. "Your father is really an ass!", his actions are telling Walt Jr.
c) Disgust with his Old Self: Maybe for the first time in his life, Walt had started to 'like' himself. The 'safe', 'proper' Walt & his almost irrelevant existence was discarded & Walt the Meth Wizard was feeling in control, powerful, & confident in his new role. He would leave this world by saving his family, giving 'The Finger' to his cancer, dying in a blaze of glory. But now, instead, his disease is in remission, & he isn't dying so soon after all. He disgusted that he may have to go back to his nerdy, boring life. "There's rot all over", he says later in the episode, when he frantically tries to clean out his house stale foundation

default userpic

I think that Walt was trying to stake claim on his territory (Jr.) but failed miserably and knew it.

user-pic

He wasn't thinking about anything other than all the work he had put into the side business. That it was all for nothing except lies and deceit. The pain and wondering if his family knew what he had been doing. His mind wasn't with them at that moment. Giving his son something to drink was like a celebration until his brother in law put his foot down. It then proceeded to be a territorial stake. As if they were male wolves marking there land. It wasn't Walter White the family man or Mr. White the Chemistry Teacher. It was Eisenhower. A man with blue money.

user-pic

(adding to the previous comment) When Walter Jr. Threw up it was as if Mr. White was pleased as if to say to his brother in law, "My son does what I say." His symbol of winning.

default userpic

I predict that Walt Jr's son vomiting in the pool was a pivotal moment and foreshadowing of what's yet to come. He was trying to impress/please his dad by drinking shots. I predict that Walt Jr is going to get into drugs next season. I will go so far as to predict that something tragic is going to happen in that pool. Walt Sr. should have used that moment to teach his son the evils of drinking/getting high. He felt bad about it, but he ignored to situation.

default userpic

Nothing !! For Walt, the means were bigger than the
end. Walt's decision to include his son in the ''toast''
accomplished three very important things. One,was
to reclaim Walt Jr's respect and approval. Two, was
showing hank that his parenting, was not welcome
or needed.Three,............POWER !!! A righteousness
to protect his family,to fight the cancer and to never lie down......whatever the consequences might be!!

i think he was getting tired of walt jr being so intrigued by hanks "stories" so walt made jr drink to win his favor and afterwords teach jr a lesson

I would interpret Walt's reaction to his son vomiting in the pool by imagining Walt's mentality as a somewhat benevolent act through his son in result of his recent diagnosis of remission...as well as relying on his alter ego (heisenberg) to release his frustration and angst compiling through his daily routine of normal life and that of his abnormal attempts to secure his family's finances..the basic turning point of the character..Walter White had to signify to his family and himself that he was in charge no matter what the prognosis.

I don't think Walt was smirking at his son, but rather Hank for one upping him (at least in his mind). If anything, he looked disgusted at Walt Jr. for vomiting.

I don't think Walt cared much at the moment because he was drunk, but he regretted it later, especially when his son was proud of drinking.

I think that Walt did this to let his son learn the hard way and to let everyone else know that he was boss.
