"...And the Bag's in the River" Hailed by EW and Newsweek

The third episode of Breaking Bad's first season -- "...And the Bag's in the River" -- made an impression on the critics at Entertainment Weekly and Newsweek.
EW ranked it No. 4 (out of 10) in its list of the year's favorite episodes, noting the "gripping, quirky depiction of a monstrous moral quagmire" where Emmy winner Bryan Cranston's Walt White "ultimately, awkwardly" strangles a drug dealer: "It's official: Our Walt has broken bad."
Newsweek cited the basement scene in the episode as one of its favorite cultural moments of the year. "What's so thrilling, and chilling, about these scenes is that you can feel the choice nibbling at Walter's soul," the magazine writes. "When it's all over, your thirst for wanton TV violence will be shaded by the darkness in that basement."
