TV Guide's Matt Roush declares that the the show is "infused with a Coen Brothers-like style of macabre humor."

Ken Tucker, writing for Entertainment Weekly, gives the show a B+ then adds that it "mixes desperation and deviousness to yield a volatile, valuable product."

Frazier Moore, reviewing for the Associated Press, says that "Breaking Bad dares to be bleak, heartbreaking, shocking and bitterly funny, hurtling its milquetoast hero into situations he couldn't have imagined."

Arizona Republic strikes a similar note with their praise of Breaking Bad's leading man: "Cranston is always good

The Pioneer Press echoed the sentiment calling it a "new dark comedy with the terrific Bryan Cranston."

(The Pioneer Press, and Arizona Republic reviews were not online at the time of this post.)

What a sick world we live in, now even television and the sick people who write it, are bringing the truly twisted world of the deadliest drug to hit the streets, into our living rooms. This drug destroys not only the life of the user, but all the lives around it.

Why is this very interesting show on so very late? We, my husband and I, were looking forward to watching this exciting new show. WE will record it and hope for a better time slot. Thanks and the best of luck!

I don't see the big deal. It's not like this show is flat out endorsing the use of methamphetamine. I saw no big sign flashing "Do Meth! Do Meth!" The main characters aren't doing meth, either. They're making it. Slightest of differences. Further more, the show isn't about the actual meth. It's about a man making some unsavory decisions in order to provide for his family.

Gotta agree with the 1st comment. What a waste of air time. They could have chosen a different "unsavory" occupation for the man to delve into to support his family. What next, robbing banks? The sheer fact that it's illegal, not to mention dangerous, should have rung some kind of bell with the writers of the show. Lots of people see stuff on TV and think it's OK, not being able to separate reality from TV.

this channel is AMC, American Movie Classics....what kind of classic is this kind of trash?

You know what... I sincerely do not condone this type of pandering to a segment of society growing in number each day whose central preoccupation revolves around the pain & suffering associated with drug abuse or the easy lore of fast money....
HOWEVER, with that said, I also recognize that AMC has maintained a level of entertainment integrity which has (mostly) transcended that level of pandering that too many in the movie industry seek to establish and present as common-place often fulfilling societies worst nightmares.
I don't know how much sense you can make out of that, but I will go on record saying that I really enjoyed the 1st episode... the character development, subplot, locations... the way it was shot. And I believe that as the episodes progress the viewer will have the opportunity to reflect on more than just the base qualities associated with drugs, guns and cash... that there will be a bigger message appealing to a wider audience, an opportunity to watch the growth of two people at opposite ends of the spectrum grow thru their experiences.
Chemistry - changing from life to death and reborn.
I, for one, consider "Breaking Bad" a nuclear bomb of a success. Funny and thought-provoking. Thank you AMC. This makes up for "Mad Men"

I think the show is terrific, and no one is more anti-drug use than me. It is an adult themed show, therfore it is on late. The performances are terrific from all cast members. I hope it runs many seasons.
