Breaking Bad

US Weekly, Hollywood Reporter, New York Magazine on Breaking Bad

Following yesterday's reviews from TV Guide, Entertainment Weekly, and the AP, another batch has arrived.

John Leonard, writing for New York magazine, invokes comparisons to the Coen Brothers and Kurosawa before declaring that "Cranston's Walter is already a winner."

John Griffiths at US Weekly gives the show 3 1/2 stars then extols  "Cranson's shattering performance" while also noting how "the show's cinema-like execution make Bad truly good."

Linda Stasi at The New York Post also rates the series 3 1/2 stars, adding that  "Cranston and [Aaron] Paul are so good, it's astounding." (Star Magazine gave the show 3 1/2 stars, too.)

Barry Garron of The Hollywood Reporter says it's "suspenseful and surprising...Cranston is always fun to watch."

Greg Hernandez of The LA Daily News proclaims it "buzz-worthy."

Ellen Gray (The Philadelphia Daily News) announces that AMC "ventures deeper into HBO and Showtime territory."

Charlie McCollum (The San Jose Mercury News) deems it "an edgy, challenging new series."

At the Buffalo News, critic Alan Pergament says it's "loaded with intriguing and uncomfortable twists and some dark, laugh-out-loud humor."

In her E! Online Blog, Kristen Dos Santos proclaims "another fantastic new AMC series."

Ed Martin weighs in from Media Village to declare that Breaking Bad is "a drama as dark and disturbing as Mad Men is colorful and intoxicating."

Anything that has to do with drug use

or selling drugs mixed with the word

funny is ridiculous. Many families are

out there struggling with drug addiction

and the devastating effects of it on their

lives.

As bad as drugs are today in the USA, why would you make a tv show like this to make it seem like its ok to make and buy meth. I hope this show is a big flop and is off the air very soon. AMC you should be a shame for airing a show like this.

I think it is completely unfair to act that a show would make anyone think meth is okay is what is rediculous. It is really quite simple if you don't like a show don't watch it.

I would just like to say I really enjoyed the show and hope it does well. I now have a show I plan to watch on sunday nights.

Breaking Bad is an excellent show! I hope it continues and has a good run. I do not condone the use of meth, but it is still a good show for a Sunday night. Bryan Cranston was an excellent choice for this character.

Breaking Bad is fantastic. Great writing. Great acting. Bravo! AMC is becoming the go-to channel for great original programming. First, Mad Men - now Breaking Bad - keep it up, folks! You may just save television. (To the commenters lamenting a character so desperate he creates Meth - two words - grow up!) The show is fantastic.

I can certainly appreciate the need to be sensitive to those individuals and families that are struggling with drug addiction. That said, I think it is safe to say that Breaking Bad has done nothing to glamorize drug production or use. If anything, it is showing the meth industry as being very dangerous, both physically and emotionally. Let's stop the negative chatter and embrace Breaking Bad for what it is....an awesome character study.

Breaking Bad is smart, funny, crazy, shocking and out right entertaining! The best dam show on TV! Thanks AMC for taking risks and bringing us a series that plays like a movie! The cast is the best I have ever seen, from the small roles all the way up to the Great Bryan Cranston! The only thing this show glorifies is great writing! Give us more!
