AMC Hollywood Icon: Robert Redford
Barefoot in the Park (1967)
In the mid-'60s, buttoned-up types were starting to let it all hang out, but breaking free wasn't easy; New York's business circles were still steeped in stodgy protocol. In his first notable screen role -- the film adaptation of Neil Simon's play -- Redford lived this struggle as pedantic lawyer Paul Bratter. The character let Redford break from playing small-screen gunslingers, and showed the big-city evolution of a prudish professional learning to kick off his wingtips.
